Short Summary
My name is Nicholas Molinari (Director/Writer/Editor) and I'm a New York-based Indian-American filmmaker. I've directed, penned, shot and cut several short films, music videos, and commercials. My films range from suspense, action, horror, & comedy. These films are stylized with hyperrealistic stories, colorful compositions, and explore themes of identity and guilt.

The Killer in the House is a feature length slasher film that follows a group of college girls that head to a cabin in the woods to study for finals. They eventually find out that their lives will be put to the test by a killer… that is in the house. It is this type of post-modern humor that will be mixed in with the suspense and action sequences.
The Killer in the House is a throwback to the golden age of slashers films. Movies like Halloween, Scream, and You're Next have been immensely influential to me. Months of writing have gone into this project to make sure the end result would be something worth watching as well as different from the herd of filmmakers paying homage to the same thing. This film features well-rounded characters, a strong female cast, witty satire, cool action sequences, thought - provoking plot twists, and gory death scenes (one of which has never been seen in film history)!

The Impact
If you're looking to see a horror movie that is not part of the over populated trend of zombie, ghost, and possession films: This is it! And through funding this campaign, you can be part of its creation.

My latest short that served as my thesis film was
Based On A True Story (2015). It is an adventure fantasy film that follows the story of a pizza boy contacted by God to deliver a ghost's soul to Heaven. It is currently making buzz on the NYC film festival circuit and has received incredible audience appeal. With
The Killer in the House, our goal is to reinvent the slasher genre and obtain distribution.
Risks & Challenges
I completed my last film under budget and on schedule. We employed many old-school film techniques like rear projection and superimposing, to not only fit the vibe of the film but speed up production and cut costs.
I am fortunate to have an enthusiastic cast and crew ready to perform double duties because they love the project that much! For the promo video of this campaign, I filmed with less and cheaper equipment than I'd use on the actual film, a three man crew, and no special effects. The risk of not being funded enough, is that the crew may only be slightly larger, we'd be unable to transport everyone to the cabin upstate, and we may not be able to pull off all the cool death scenes.
To cut down on production costs on this movie, I tailored the screenplay to have the least amount of locations and to match the locale of the main cabin. I picked out the Sony A7S to film the movie, the best camera for low-light photography, in order to cut down on lighting equipment. The driving sequences will be filmed using rear projection to eliminate the need for camera cars / car rigs.
And in all these situations, the budget cuts helped to define the tone of the film: an homage to retro movies in a dark and isolated location.
