Hey! I'm Dave Odd, I was a stand-up comedian for 15 years and have been a lifelong naturalist. I have been Chicago's only full time professional forager since 2009 serving Chicago's finest restaurants and guiding my Eat the Neighborhood foraging tours for the public. It was always my dream to own property in the wilderness where people could come enjoy and learn about the splendor of nature. This is what the Land of Odd is all about. I will also be running very unique survival camp programs in conjunction with award winning chefs there.
The Land of Odd in Beaverville IL sits on 2 acres of pristine Kankakee Sands Prairie, one of the most unique habitats in the United States. 18 species of reptiles and amphibians, countless bird species, deer, turkey, bobwhite quail, coyotes, red fox, groundhogs, rare insects and butterflies, endangered species, and dozens of species of plants and wildflowers have all been observed on the property.
I've poured my heart and soul and life savings into this place and unfortunate events with shady contractors doing shoddy work or none at all have delayed the completion of the cabin and this is the last little bit I need to get it finished. My intention is that the Land of Odd will be a community center and meeting place for herpers, birders, wildlife photographers & enthusiasts, botanists, researchers, hunters, fisherman, and anyone and everyone who enjoys the outdoors or just needs an escape.
I found a reliable, certified contractor to finish up the cabin, which will include insulating the ceiling, finishing the bathroom walls, and general shoring and sealing up and correcting the mistakes of previous work done. I need about $5000 to complete this with labor and materials and any left over will go towards furnishing the interior.
I have included a wide selection of perks, from use of the Land of Odd and campsites, to admission for my Eat the Neighborhood foraging tours, to produce bags, and more.
Thanks you in advance for your support!
