Who am I ?
Hello Film Fans. I'm Jeff Meyer and watching movies on celluloid is a true love of mine. So much so, that for the past 9 years I've put together countless film screenings at The Palace Theater here in Syracuse, NY. From westerns, cult classics, or horror marathons, we’ve kept the 35mm torch burning.
As digital becomes the dominant format in cinemas, the depth and beauty of 35mm film is on the verge of extinction. But digital can’t compare to a restored film print or the nostalgic grit of a grindhouse print. From being touched by artists or directors, to being screened in some of the most amazing film houses in the world, each print holds its own history. Some films have not yet made the transfer from film to digital, and might never be, leaving future film fans unable to experience it on the silver screen.
Recently, the analog processor for our 35mm projector broke. I'm raising funds to get a new processor, pay for a certified Dolby Audio Technician to adjust/equalize the audio after the repairs and to help cover shipping expenses. With your contribution, you'll be able to help save 35mm film screenings in Syracuse with improved sound quality and updated film audio technology.
Without these repairs, the Palace Theater will do away with the film projector entirely and go strictly to a digital format. 35mm will survive as long as fans like you and I keep it alive. LONG LIVE 35mm!
What I Need & What You Get:
This is what I need:
- Updated sound processor
- Dolby Certified Audio Technician to EQ system
- Repairs to the Subwoofer
- Tech to re-wire the audio rack
$1400 will cover all that needs to get done to improve the system. The most expensive being the Dolby Sound Tech. Any funds raised over the goal will go towards expenses for the 2015 Salt City Horror Fest.
This is what you get:
- A better viewing and listening experience
- Opportunity to see over a dozen 35mm films
- Satisfaction knowing you were part of a goal to save film screenings
Each perk involves different levels of film viewing events. Recently we were blessed with a Brew & View 35mm Film sponsor. The goal is to program four Brew & View 35mm Film screenings late 2014 and early 2015. Depending on the perk you choose, you'll receive passes to the Brew & Views and the 2015 Salt City Horror Fest. As contributions pour in, I will immediately put them towards the goals.
The
Impact
Since I was a kid, I’ve always
wanted to see the movies I grew up with on the big screen the way they were
supposed to be viewed. Granted, I
could take most films and screen it via digital, but that is not where my heart
is. The Palace has no time, or
resources to put towards this project.
It is up to all of us to pull ourselves and our love of film together to
raise the goal of $1400.
I’ve been doing 35mm film screenings
for almost 9 years, I plan on doing this for another 9. Pretty sure you all
would like this to keep going.
Risks
& Challenges
This
risks involved in raising funds for the audio project are simple. There are no risks. Either it gets fixed or we watch movies on
film with crappy audio or on digital.
For your information – The 35mm Film sound processor is unrelated to
anything the Palace screens digitally.
Other
Ways You Can Help
Please get the word out and help us
reach our goal. As contributions role in,
I will start putting them towards each project and will update with video as to
the progress of said project. Please use
the Indigogo share tools. All extra funds over our will go towards the Brew& View 35mm film series and The 2015 Salt City Horror Fest.
