Overview
The Second Presbyterian Church of Chicago houses numerous stained glass windows from the Arts and Crafts movement of 1880-1920. This short documentary follows the painstaking restoration process of one of those works of art; Louis Comfort Tiffany's "Peace Window." Filmed over the course of a year, the documentary focuses on a master conservator of stained-glass, Tom Venturella, as he and his partner, Jim Murphy, bring the window back to its original 1903 form.

Short Summary

In the summer 2017, with the help of the non-profit Friends of Historic Second Church, I embarked on a year-long journey of chronicling the restoration of Louis Comfort Tiffany's Peace Window with the help of a small crew.  Our job was simple; follow each step of the restoration process and present it in the form of a short documentary. What we began to realize is that this documentary was about more than just one window. The film is a call to action for those who want to see beautiful works of American art in public spaces maintained and preserved for future generations.

Over 100-hours of footage make up this 25-minute long Documentary Short, which was shot on location at Second Presbyterian Church of Chicago, Venturella Studio in New York City, and Kokomo Opalescent Glass Factory in Kokomo, Indiana.  Each step of the restoration is captured in detail with a focus on compelling visuals and engaging storytelling.  The end result is a celebration of a beautiful work of art, but more importantly of those who dedicated themselves to giving it new life.

As the film nears total completion, we need your help.

What We Need & What You Get

With limited funding already spent, we are faced with a few expenses that stand in the way of getting this film out into the world.  Those expenses mostly include music licensing for the score, sound-mixing, color correction and some marketing assets.  Without these final elements, our full vision for the film will not be seen through to its fullest potential.

Our goal is to get "The Peace Window" to as wide of an audience as possible through National and International Film Festivals as well as private screenings in Chicago and New York.  The film will also serve to motivate more folks to support the preservation of art in public spaces. Your contributions will help us reach these goals.

For any contribution we will include your name in the "special thanks" credits of the film.
