Hi Friends, Family and Funders!
We are Katie, Ailish and Aoife, producers from Bl!nder Films, an Irish independent production company. We have teamed up with one of our long term collaborators, Writer/ Director Conor Horgan, who directed our first feature film One Hundred Mornings (Winner of Special Jury Mention at Slamdance Film Festival 2010) to bring you our latest feature documentary; The Queen of Ireland.

Panti Bliss is many things: part glamorous aunt, part Jessica Rabbit, she's a wittily incisive performer with charisma to burn who is regarded as one of the best drag queens in the business.
Created by Rory O’Neill, Panti is also an accidental activist and in her own words ‘a court jester, whose duty is to say the un-sayable'. Over the last few years Rory has become a figurehead for LGBT rights in Ireland and since the recent scandal around Pantigate, his fight for equality and against homophobia has been recognised all around the world.
“Being gay pushed me, pushed us to think.
And from it came an explosion of art, politics, passion. A lust for life and
all it could be. “
- Rory O’Neill

The Queen of Ireland is not just about Panti Bliss the performer, or Rory O’Neill the accidental activist. It is about how one man in a dress has mobilized a nation and an international community to stand up and fight against injustice.
The Marriage Equality Referendum is due to take place in Ireland next Spring. Whatever the result of the referendum, Rory (and Panti) will be there all the way, and we’ll be with him every step filming, editing and finishing our documentary so that it’s ready to show the world after this much-anticipated milestone for Irish society.

We’re looking for your
help to make this film a reality. We have been filming Rory / Panti
intermittently over the last few years - performing her stage shows, leading
Dublin’s Gay Pride Parade and New York’s alternative St. Patrick's Day parade
and hosting the Alternative Miss Ireland Pageant and the very first
Gay Matchmaking Festival in Lisdoonvarna. We have also interviewed
friends, peers and protégés, building up a multi-faceted picture of a complex
and compelling character.
Our campaign is about the next step.
This film has been a labor of love for us and we have gathered a lot of
wonderful footage on a shoestring budget. The turning point for us and for our
documentary was Pantigate.
This propelled Panti from a superstar on the Irish gay scene to an
internationally known performer and activist within a few short weeks. We
are dedicated to following Panti/Rory's story as he comes to terms with huge
fallout of such a major shift in not only his life but the fight for LGBT Equality
in Ireland.
We have set our crowdfunding goal to €50,000. This will allow us to continue filming with Rory / Panti over
the next few months, as well as allowing us to edit & research, get the rights to
use archive & music, and everything else we need to take this film to the big screen. So your contributions will really help us make this the best
film possible. You cannot underestimate the impact YOU can have on the future
and the success ofThe Queen of Ireland.
