The Holocaust was the single most catastrophic event in modern Jewish history. Nazi Germany launched a genocidal war to rid Europe of Jews. By 1945, six million Jews had been murdered. Hundreds of thousands sought shelter with their brethren in the Jewish communities of British Palestine, but the British policy known as "The White Paper" officially barred Jews from entering the Promised Land. Tens of thousands of Jewish refugees were imprisoned by British authorities. Many were deported back to Europe where they faced certain death.
Menachem Begin believed that the British policy was tantamount to collusion with the Nazis. In 1944, he organized a revolt against British rule in Palestine with the goal of ending restrictions on Jewish immigration and establishing a free Jewish state. While most Jews wanted an end to the White Paper, the official Jewish leadership in Palestine faced a dilemma as they were formal allies of England in the fight against Nazism. Furthermore, Jewish leaders believed that their goal of establishing a Jewish state in Palestine depended on British support, so they set out to crush Menachem Begin's revolt. Factional violence rocked Palestine for 4 years and nearly erupted into civil war between the Jews.
Powerful political forces have long tried to suppress this story. A global alliance of Holocaust deniers has launched a disinformation campaign that distorts these events to discredit Zionism and undermine Israel. They have flooded the Internet with propaganda, and push their agenda on college campuses. Meanwhile, the witnesses to these historical events are quickly fading from the scene, leaving younger generations with no trustworthy, honest, reliable sources of information.
Fortunately, Menachem Begin published his own account of The Revolt, in 1950. This essential document places The Revolt in its proper historical context, and reveals the political philosophy of Menachem Begin, the man who founded the Israeli Likud Party, became prime minister of Israel, and was awarded a Nobel Prize for making peace with Egypt.
The producers of The Revolt are honored to have been entrusted with the exclusive film and television rights to Menachem Begin's book, "The Revolt", by his surviving family. Our goal is to produce a dramatic feature-length motion picture based on Menachem Begin's book.
We have an exciting original screenplay, adapted from the source material by Steven Schub, vetted for historical accuracy by Yisrael Medad of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem, and reviewed by Menachem Begin's personal colleagues and friends.
We aim to raise $50,000 in development funds for this project. Your support will help us generate a full production budget, script breakdown, and shooting schedule, secure key attachments, and pitch the project to studios, production companies, distributors, packagers, and sales agents.
Our supporters are invited to join our virtual community, and stay connected with the producers. We will send you some original movie memorabilia as a thank you gift, and promise a free viewing of The Revolt in the future (assuming the movie gets made).
