Overview

As you can see, we are now Indemand! That means we hit our goal and with your help we can keep going! With your continuing help, we'll be able to afford stellar post-production and festival fees, too. The Root Of Happiness is going to go far and we want you along for the ride! Join us!

The Film

Although the pursuit of happiness has been a topic of discussion since the Declaration of Independence, the suggestion that everyone should feel happy all the time seems to be emerging as a new phenomenon in pop-culture. Movies, books, and music lyrics all send messages that say, “You deserve to be happy.” But, research shows that chasing happiness may actually make you feel worse.

Two strangers troubled by family issues are serendipitously brought together. They put their lives on pause for one night to forget about their woes, enjoy the moment, and jazz.

In this gritty and beautifully crafted short film, Andy Truschinski (The Heidi Chronicles, War Horse) makes his screenwriting and directorial debut and will leave you asking:

Is sustainable happiness attainable or are we working toward the impossible?

How You Can Continue To Help

We did it! With your help we were able to hit our initial goal of $10K (as mentioned in the video)! This will help us cover the cost of production. It’ll cover things like: renting the proper camera and sound equipment, securing locations and permits, transportation—virtually everything to help ensure a proper and professional shoot.

We are incredibly grateful that we were able to hit our initial goal and would love to see if we can hit our stretch goal of $15K.

The next $3K will cover everything post production. This will be so we're able to edit the picture and sound in a professional manner. The additional $2K will help us cover costs for festival season (travel and submission costs for film festivals really rack up!).
