Who we are
Ian Garside, the inventor of the Sciatic Pain Relief Cushion, understands the debilitating nature of this pain as it is something he himself has suffered with.
One day he realised that whilst he was seated and the sciatic nerve that was causing him pain was not under pressure it was the most comfortable that he had been. This lead to Ian developing the concept for the cushion.
When the cushion worked for Ian he became passionate to see it help as many people as possible so that they too could find some relief. This lead to him setting up a business with Mark Dunwell and Jo Milnes. Mark is also a Remedial Massage Therapist and has had a long career as a successful operations manager in various manufacturing industries. Jo has a technical background and many years experience in medical device development and construction.
The Product

After extensive development and testing we have created a cushion that not only works, with 93% of those that have trialled the cushion reporting a reduction in pain, but is also portable and discrete.
How it works
The heart shape of the cushion is the key. The cushion is placed on the seat with the gap at the rear on the side where you experience the sciatic pain.

When you are suffering with sciatic pain the sciatic nerve is hypersensitive to any stimulation. Small amounts of stimulation can cause excessive pain. One of the keys to recovering from sciatic pain is to calm the nerve from over stimulation.
Nerves are highly sensitive to the mechanical stimulus of stretch and pressure - both of these stimulae happen when you sit, which is why often sitting is uncomfortable if you have sciatica. Appropriate stretching can be beneficial for sciatica, but stretching while the nerve is under pressure can be painful. The Sciatic Pain Relief Cushion allows gentle stretching of the sciatic nerve whilst sitting without the pressure. This can be seen from the pressure mapping results below:

The first sciatic pain sufferers to try the cushion saw the benefit and as more try the cushion the feedback is just as strong, if not stronger. No product will work for everyone but we are delighted that the cushion is helping such a large percentage of those suffering from sciatic pain. Those that have tried it whilst pregnant have also found it beneficial in improving their comfort when seated.

The Development
During the development we have learnt that different seating environments require specific cushions and have developed solutions for the most common seating environments. There is a solution for driving, one for comfortable chairs/ sofas, and a solution that suits most office chairs.

Versions
There are two sizes of cushion available.
![]()
![]()
The smaller of the cushions we call the "Car cushion" as this is where most most car seats. If the seat is leather, or the surface is slippy we recommend that you use the available non slip mat to keep the cushion securely in place. We recommend that the mat is used with the cushion in moving vehicles.
This smaller cushion is also ideal for traditional dining chairs and for use at when commuting or at sporting events, the theatre or cinemas etc. The carrying handle makes it easy to carry with you, but it will also fit in a standard carrier bag if you wish.

The second cushion is larger (45cm x 45cm) , deeper and has a looser cover - we call this the standard, or larger cushion.
It is designed to give greater relief when seated on a softer surface, such as an armchair or sofa. The cushion works with the softer seat to reduce the pressure on the sciatic nerve,

We have structured the rewards so that the best value is when both sizes are purchased at once to help give the greatest relief to you or your loved one.
The Rewards/ Perks
There will be additional rewards added as the campaign runs but the best deals are the first ones where there are limited numbers.

Why are we Crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding this project so that we have the funds to start manufacturing the cushions. We have a supply chain and all we need now are orders that will raise the capital required to start production.
By contributing to this campaign and ordering cushions you are helping us to scale up and achieve economies that make the price point as low as we can. In recognition of your support at this early stage of the product we are offering some attractive discounts over the final recommended retail price of the products. There are Early bird offers for those of you that contribute first, but we have to limit these, so don't expect them to last.
If we don't reach our target you will still receive your perks as the production costs for this first product has already been covered.

At this moment the medical device is only registered in Europe, so we cannot ship products outside this area. We need to grow before we can afford the registrations costs for the other regions. We are hoping that there will be sufficient interest from outside the EU to make this a reality so that we could look at launching in other regions in six months time. If you are not in the EU and would like to be kept informed of our progress please leave a comment so we can respond to you directly and keep in touch.

We want to undertake future research into the effectiveness of the cushion so that we can ensure that it is clear who will benefit and also to help us develop any future versions to widen the number of people that can benefit from this solution. Crowdfunding will help us achieve this, as surplus funds raised can be channelled into research and evidence gathering.
The road to recovery
We really want as many people as possible to experience the benefits that others have from using the Sciatic Pain Relief cushion.
Just as importantly we want to hear from you as to how you have got on with the product. Your input will drive the product improvements and our understanding . There are so many causes of sciatic pain that we know we will not be able to help everyone, but each person that is helped is a victory. No-one likes to see a friend or loved one suffer.
Help us to help others
