UPDATE!

We've hit our goal of $5,000! Woo! We are still accepting contributions to make our film as successful as possible and pay for all that fun film stuff! Thanks for the support!

What Is "The Superlatives"?

“The Superlatives” is a high school comedy with political humor. It’s a feature film that has been a Second Rounder at Austin Film Festival and made the Short List at Barnstorm Fest. “The Superlatives” is “Wet Hot American Summer” meets “Election”: less sex, more yelling, and way better insults. It’s senior year at Scadsbury High and superlative voting has been moved up to this Friday. Every student must fight to make sure they can create a lasting legacy for themselves.

I didn’t win a superlative in high school (and the judges threw out all of my attempted recounts), but I did count the votes. I saw first hand how much seemingly small titles like “Best Eyes” and “Best Hair” meant to people. The Superlatives takes that intensity of high school titles and blows it up to the max in a big, funny way.

Why Now?

Hmmm why are we making a film that pokes fun at American politics right now? Perhaps because politics has been so calm and unpolarizing over the past few years. Wait, that doesn’t sound right. Oh! It’s because politics has been absolutely bananas, and I believe that one of the best ways to deal with chaos is through laughter.

Throughout the film, the students use their best political tactics to win superlatives by revealing scandals about their opponents, rigging the polls, and yes, even a “birther” conspiracy, when they discover one girl was actually born in Ohio. Right now, people are paying more attention to politics than ever before. Through the power of the internet and social media, we’re watching political scandals come out faster than we can keep up. This film brings to light the political chaos we see on the news and teases it through the lens of high school students voting for Senior Superlatives.

Why Should I Pull Out My Pocketbook?

Good question! Look, there are a ton of reasons to give to this film. You’d be supporting a hilarious new indie film featuring a diverse cast and a female-run team. You’d be helping up-and-coming filmmakers, comedians, and actors who will probably be famous someday. You’d be saying “Hey, not every movie needs to star Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence”.

But at the end of the day, you’ve just read too far into this page to not give. You read a post, you clicked a link, you watched a short video, you read all of this. You’re too far in. I mean what’s 5 or 10 bucks at this point?

**I understand it’s a pandemic and a lot of us have lost our jobs (especially those of us in the arts!). So if you can’t give, don’t be shy. Share this baby!

Where Does The Money Go?

To a lot of things! When you give money to “The Superlatives”, you’re helping pay for the cast and crew, equipment, locations, transportation, and food! Our cast and crew have a history of working within an indie budget, and we know how to make every dollar count, we need your help to bring this project to life! In addition, to crowdfunding, we will also be seeking out additional investors and grants to complete our budget.
