Leontine
We are
Helena Sánchez and
Rodrigo Barbosa. We're married and dedicate our lives to music; we now have a project called Leontine.
For a long time we have been making our first album – The Tide – which has been a wonderful adventure shared with lots of great friends, and it's not over yet. Our passion for music has led us to create a very exciting record which we're very proud of and dying to share it with you. But it's also an ambitious project: we recorded in two of the best studios in the city in order to keep up with today's great music productions; we had lots of special guests who made amazing contributions but also made it more complicated.
The Tide was born out of our need to make our passions audible. It's a very personal and risky album and every part of us is present in each of the 10 songs contained in it. With your help we will be able to finish it and share our music with everybody willing to listen. It will be the start of the long life journey in which we plan to be working for a long while.
What we have to offer
We're completely committed to this project. Still, it is hard to make a living as a musician and also produce great albums. Although ours is almost completely recorded, there are still some expenses that we need to cover before we're able to release it –we want to be able to offer beautiful artwok to go with the album and a great website–. We got a great deal from
Topetitud and
Intolerancia, two of the best studios in Mexico, but once we added to it the mixing, mastering, graphic design, manufacture and promotion fees, we realized we would have to ask for help.
We want to use this to build a community, to connect with people that, like us, are looking for new music, new honest voices that might help inspire and generate ideas.
You can be a part of Leontine and this experience, and get some of the very special
rewards that we created for our backers:
a song written just for you, an exclusive showcase, tickets to our shows and signed CDs, amongst many others.
We decided to take the risk and go ALL-OR-NOTHING. Will only get the money if enough people support and believe in us. If we meet our goal then we'll be sure that this community is growing and that we have managed to move and inspire others.
Then we'll be able to give something back: our music.
Our history
Both of us have been involved in music for a long time. We have been part of a lot of bands and had the opportunity to travel and contribute to someone else's music, but all these years we were looking for a way to express ourselves creating our own music. The Tide is the result of that search, and in it we try to speak in the most honest and authentic way we're capable of.
In this record we were honored to have some of the most amazing musicians in Mexico, and they happen to be also our good friends. They believed in this and shared their music with us, and as a result we have 10 songs put together by the talent of people such as
Cuong Vu (David Bowie, Laurie Anderson),
Milo Froideval (Latin Grammy Award Winner),
Alex Otaola (Santa Sabina, San Pascualito Rey),
Benjamin Shwartz (Klezmerson),
Guillermo Perata (Paté de Fuá),
Daniel Zlotnik (Los Dorados, Zoé, Natalia Lafourcade) and many others.
The challenge
This project began forming in our heads about 5 years ago. Since then, we've had a lot of obstacles in the way: moments of great doubt, people walking out of it, not enough technical equipment, etc. None of that made us give up; we have learned that it's a tough road to walk. Lots of musicians learn this and decide to quit or move on to other projects, but we've come this far and grown so much in the way that we've become stubborn enough to keep on going. We believe in our music and trust others will do so.
What else you can do to help
Still, it's not all about the money. A band can't survive if no one knows about it, there are many things you can do to help: something as simple as using the "share" options or talking about us with others can generate echo. You might think we need big contributions, but any kind of help might make the difference.
You can also be a part of this community by getting in touch with us, following our
social media and sharing your experience and thoughts with us so we can build a relationship that transcends this campaign .
The Tide has come this far thanks to the help of a lot of people, and it will be released the same way: join Leontine and become our record label.
