What We Need & What You Get
- The $15,000.00 budget will add on to our already $25,000.00 we privately raised. These funds will finance our crews travel, meals, hotels, state of the art sound equipment, lighting, and the latest in 4K camera gear with cinema lenses to give the film exceptional production value and shelf life. The funds will also finance the most experienced crew who I have been working with almost my whole career.
- If we don't reach the full donation we set the goal for we will use all the funds raised cautiously to get the most out of our budget. No dollar will go to waste.
- If we are lucky to reach our goal or surpass Stoddard will bring back his favorite actors and crew for reenactment scenes that appear throughout the film. This means Kane Hodder may take the screen along with Rick McCallum, and who knows who else we may surprise the audience with. This is a great team to work with and this allows our final product to look as if it had a huge budget.
The Story
- A fresh look into psychiatry from the early 1900's up until today. Today we cringe at the abstract tools, ideals, and procedures to cure a patients mental issue. Many of the tortuous ways have mellowed but the abuse from caregiver to patient are still prevalent.
- I have dedicated my life since 2007 with years of research, talking to the people who have experienced these inhumane treatments from the past to present day. The Mental Health Boards across America consistently sweep their wrongdoings under the rug to protect themselves from gaining the same reputation as their predecessors.
- To experience and witness the stories documented we will be going undercover into a facility that is known for its continuing violation of medical ethics and federal law. With enough evidence and our film we can start for much needed reform in these institutions.
- Not every institution past or present is guilty of the misconduct. We will explore the history of the people and places that stood for change. Ultimately their voices and ideals changed psychiatry forever.
- As contributors and we the filmmakers we can help regain the dignity of those in need by giving them a chance to tell their stories to the masses.
- Frightening or uplifting we want to know the facts and truths of the science giving our audience a solid knowledge of mental illness and not the stigmatized version so many love to tell,
- Involving reenactments provides more than stock photos and talking heads. We want the audience to relive the era or experience as it was for their grandparents or parents. This will give the film a chance to be shopped at major networks and distribution outlets.

“THE AFFLICTED regularly implies more than it details, which makes for a provocative and uncomfortably sincere examination of a matriarch gone mad without anyone really noticing until it’s all a bit too late.” – Fangoria.com

Risks & Challenges
There is always inherent risk as we learned in December of 2015, but it took the years of experience to keep our heads in the game and find a solution. Problem solving is a major part of the filmmaking process. That's what makes it fun and stressful because you never know what tomorrow brings. We constantly have our eyes on each others back not only for safety reasons but to keep us all focused on the tasks at hand.
Insurance covers any unlikely damage to gear which unless a catastrophic mishap occurs nothing should set us back a shoot day. Murphy's Law is always present but with due diligence it will have to sit back and enjoy the show.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help:
- Ask folks to get the word out and make some noise about your campaign.
- Remind them to use the Indiegogo share tools!
And that's all there is to it.
