Idea:
My Moto Mod Candidate is probably the most simple and elegant thing that can be attached to a Moto Z. The existing style shells give a warmth and personality to the Moto Z, but they do not have any functionality. They are for looks only; and with a platform as versatile as the Moto Z, why would you attach anything to it that does not provide some functionality? My idea was to integrate wireless charging and infrared emitters in a stylish accessory barely thicker than the existing style shells.
Next Steps
I am currently working on a prototype, which is nearing completion. The electronic components have been tested with the phone and work as intended. The wood housing is nearly complete and soon I will have a working proof-of-concept design that will work through the phone's USB port. Currently all of the components I have used are off the shelf and commercially available. I need your help to take this prototype to Motorola and work with them to develop the final version which will connect through the Moto Z's Mod connector, as well as refine and finalize the electronics and materials.
The Impact
In a recent article it was stated that Moto Mods are in use about 10 percent of the time. This means that 90 percent of the time, it is just a phone, and likely has a style shell attached to it. If the style shell had function on top of form, it would add utility and convenience over and above what the phone is already capable of.
January 28 Update
I have updated this campaign to include perks. There is a wireless charging style shell and a wireless charging style shell with infrared. I have received feedback indicating there is a demand for both products. Since this is a candidate in Motorola's Mod the Smartphone Challenge, I need to move on to the next step to make this Mod candidate a reality. There are a lot of unknowns at this point, but I believe this is a great addition to the Moto Z family and is also very desirable and marketable. With your help we can make this Mod candidate a reality.

February 4 Update
Second prototype is operational. It has been a great week and I have a lot of people to thank for the success so far. This prototype is also wired until I can meet with Motorola and finalize the Mod connector, but it is fully functional and is an example of how it works.
