Hello and thanks for making it this far in our vision to bringing an Independent Microcinema & Bar to Wilmington! We plan on opening by mid 2024 but need your help in making our vision a reality!
Wilmington has long been a film town with multiple large film studios, production companies, and film degree programs at UNCW and CFCC. The Velvet Room Cinema and Bar will be a unique and independent movie theater located at 615 Castle Street in Wilmington that provides an experience that currently cannot be found at the multiplexes. Our theater will offer a diverse selection of films, including local productions, classics, cult favorites, overlooked gems, independent new releases, foreign films and more. With a focus on providing a retro and nostalgic ambiance, combined with modern technology, a bar in the front and speakeasy in the back for our community to congregate at, we aim to create a memorable cinematic community experience for our patrons.
Our Vision
The Velvet Room will be a single screen microcinema located in the heart of the Castle Street Art and Antique District at 615 Castle Street. We will be a repertory cinema that shows a little bit of something for everyone. We look forward to hosting events for any group, business, or cinephile that is interested in holding one off events, festivals, birthdays, monthly screenings, as well as showcasing their own productions! We'll also be a great place to congregate for cinephiles, industry folks, locals, and anyone interested in a unique moviegoing experience!
What we need the funds for
The funding raised here on Indiegogo will go towards our buildout, startup expenses, equipment, and generally helping us provide the best experience for everyone!
What we've already done
This has long been a dream of ours and earlier this year we started working towards making this a reality. We joined the Art House Convergence -- a coalition of independent exhibitors that connects, amplifies and advocates for its community. There we made contacts, learned about starting a microcinema, and met with dozens of independent cinema owners around the states to see if we could make our dream a reality. We've been purchasing equipment for months now, before even locking down a location, because we knew this was something we could accomplish, but also because we knew this was something that would fit perfectly in Wilmington's thriving film scene!
