Director’s Statement
Two years ago a friend of mine committed suicide. This came as a complete shock to me, and as is so often the case, I only found out after the fact that he had struggled with depression for much of his life. This started me reflecting on how depression has run in my own family for generations, more specifically on how the suicide of an ancestor of mine was kept quiet and often alluded to as an accident. As a filmmaker I wanted to find a way to cope with and understand my conflicting feelings about these events, and what eventually surfaced was a story that explores how depression is swept under the rug, hushed in conversations, and kept secret from people outside and even within a family. That story is this film—
There Is No Door.

More About Our Goal and How You Can Help!
We have assembled a talented crew for the film through DePaul University’s School of Cinematic Arts. Additionally, the school has generously granted us access to professional equipment. We are extremely grateful for their continued support of this film and their students.
However, this support only gets us so far. We need your help in order to achieve There Is No Door’s full potential. We are excited to create a film that not only explores the horror genre, but dissects and utilizes the fantastical tropes of the genre to communicate the reality of hereditary depression.
Our goal is to raise $6,500 to provide for the production resources we need in order to ensure the success of this film. The money that we raise would be allocated as such in different production departments:
-TALENT - $1500
We have gathered a talented group of actors and actresses from around the Chicago area, their respective work spanning film, television, and theater. We are lucky to have them committed to the project, and we need to compensate their talent and hard work.
-PRODUCTION DESIGN - $1000
In order to achieve the proper aesthetic of this film it is imperative that the production design be well equipped with a sizeable budget. This portion of the budget will go to set design, wardrobe, props, and more.
-MAKEUP FX - $2000
We have been working with a fantastic Chicago makeup and special effect artist to develop the SFX for the film. Since it is imperative for the SFX, such as a facial gunshot wound, to appear as realistic as possible, their talents are necessary. Their work can be viewed at www.rkfishermakeup.com
-FOOD - $1000
A portion of our budget would be allocated for the necessary meals provided for our talented and hardworking cast and crew during throughout the seven-day production.
-MARKETING - $1000
After production of the film is completed, we will be submitting the film to multiple film festivals across North America and Europe. We will need to pay for the production of screeners, as well as the festival submission fees.
Why Your Donations Matter
No matter how big or small, your donation will help bring this project to life and we'd like to invite you on the filmmaking journey - from pre-production to our first film screenings and festivals.
Although much of our camera equipment is provided, to make the film a reality we will need to raise $6,500 which will cover shooting with 35 cast and crew over seven days. The funds raised will help us create a frightening, morbid, but ultimately moving film.
