WHO WE ARE
Kyrstin Baker – Writer/Director
I am a 22 year old filmmaker and student from South Dakota currently enrolled at the Los Angeles Film School. For my final thesis project, I will be directing two “spec” commercials with the help of an amazing student crew that I have had the privilege of getting to know over the past thirteen months. We are nearing graduation, and what I hope to accomplish with this project is to create two specs that are commercially effective and narratively satisfying, and for each of us to be able to begin building a portfolio of projects to reflect our filmmaking styles. These projects will serve as stepping stones to jumpstart our careers in the film industry and help prepare us for when we are seeking work post-graduation. I'm very excited about finally seeing these projects come to life.
Abby Arreola – Production Design
Abby is young screenwriter who discovered a passion for Production Design while attending LAFS. She has had an impressive start on school-related projects, and would like to add two more fantastic sets to her portfolio. She is as excited to see these two projects come to life as I am, as she will have free reign over the set design for both. She has already begun putting together a fantastic Look Book.
Josh Arreola, a Los Angeles Recording School student and the brother of our Production Designer, will compose our musical score.
OUR PROJECTS
A “spec” commercial is a commercial shot with the intentions of being used for portfolio/reel purposes. They are not sponsored or funded in any way by the companies that own the product, and will most likely never be shown on television. They are shot in order to display the style and talent of the filmmaker and to enhance their chances of getting future work on similar projects.
“Telephone” for Apple iPhone
The first of the two specs is a fun, spirited announcement of the release of the rumored iPhone 7. It will be shot in two locations over two days in Burbank, and will be reminiscent of the children’s game “Telephone.” This entire commercial will be shot using an iPhone 6 and the application Filmmic Pro. Filming will take place on February 26th and 27th.
“What Would You Do?” for Klondike
The second spec will be a horror parody advertisement for Klondike. It will parody the popular phenomenon, Saw, and will demonstrate just how far some people are willing to go to get their hands on a Klondike Bar. Filming dates dependent on location verification.
OUR GOAL
As filmmakers, we believe in putting out our best work possible, but as students, we often don’t have the funds we need to make that happen. This is where you come in. We are trying to raise $1000 to cover production costs.
The money will go to the following:
· Food (good food = happy cast and crew)
· Location Permits
· Insurance
· Production Design & Set Construction
· Props Deposit & Rental
· Truck Rental
· Additional Sound and Lighting Equipment Rental
· Wardrobe & Makeup
· Kit Fees
· 1 Terabyte Hard Drives
· Contingency
Every dollar that is raised will help us to enhance this project in every way possible. Please consider donating if you can; even as little as one dollar can go a long way.
ONE LAST THOUGHT
If you are unable to do any funding, we understand. However, you can still help! Spreading the word by sharing this project with friends and family and posting a link of the campaign on Facebook or Twitter would be much appreciated. The more people who hear about our campaign, the more likely we are to succeed. So please, help us spread the word! And know that we could never thank you enough for your support.
