Our project: We, Bill & Zoe have been building community together for over 10 years. We call it "tribe." Our own tribe operates as a bonded, committed, loving group of people all living in their own homes. Now in our 6th year together, we choose to meet every week. As we created tribe for ourselves we evolved a template that actually works. Since 2006 we've facilitated nearly 100 face-to-face training events. Now we're distilling all of our experience and best practices into a powerful online course, so many more people can build their personal tribe.
What we need: We ask you to help us hire experienced home-study course builders to get quality on-line classes out to you, and professionals to launch our work out into the world. We're offering rewards that can help you, and others enhance your social connections.
Why Tribe?: We say “You can take people out of the tribe, but you can not take tribe out of people.” Deep in our bones we are social creatures, tribal beings, yet we’ve evolved in ways that we can’t go back. We need a NEW tribe – for our times! We teach the “how-to” details of designing your “tribe” as a deeply satisfying journey of bonding, love and commitment.
Home Study Course for a more peaceful world: You probably feel the cultural malaise and troubles of the world and like many of us asking "what's mine to do?" We suggest putting on your own air mask first. Your tribe becomes that safe place that empowers you to give your gift to the world. Together we rebuild the lost connections to support each other.
The Vision: Building authentic communities all over the world is possible. We see 1000 new tribes in 5 years and 10,000 in ten years. These become the groups of "thoughtful, committed citizens" Margaret Mead suggested can change the world. Help us change the world.
Feeling tribe: Perhaps you have a longing, remembering the feeling of your hometown, college, musical group or maybe an activist project. Tribe feels like going away to personal growth workshop and falling in love with everyone, but you don't have to say good-bye. We build personal tribes based on contentment, joy and intimacy.
How we do it: We invite you to learn about our tribe from our article in Communities magazine. Or see these two fun videos which give a personal feel for us and provide lots of clear information. Two of our students (who make videos of social innovators and are now in their own tribe) enjoyed our work so much that they did the interviews.
Our Background: Bill co-founded The ManKind Project and authored A Circle of Men: The Original Manual of Men's Support Groups. He's especially proud that 10,000 men (in over 1000 support groups, all around the world )"circle-up" every week, growing as emotionally literate, conscious and mission driven men. Zoe lived in an artists community for 14 years and has been deeply engaged in sacred art for decades as a painter, dancer, songstress and storyteller. Together Bill & Zoe wrote We Need Each Other: Building Gift Community. Also see our Website, our Facebook page, and group photos over the years!
Ways you can help: Contribute what feels right! Please help us by sending this out to other people who might enjoy seeing and supporting our work.
Thank you for joining us in making the world a better place,
Bill & Zoe
Our favorite testimonial: “The loss of community is a defining crisis of our time. I’m grateful that Bill and Zoe are applying their extraordinary skills as healers and social inventors to building intimate tribe as the old world unravels.”
