The theme of the 2019 San Francisco International Arts Festival is "The Path to Democracy" and SFIAF is presenting a number of artists from both the Bay Area and around the world whose work reflects on cultural exchange. SFIAF include Toolbox Percussion and their talented artistic director Louis Siu as a part of the program with US debut of their powerful work "Toolbox Percussion Mouvement 2.0 - Grant Avenue."
Pairing with a week-long residency at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where the collective will be working with Jack Van Geem, former Principal Percussion of the San Francisco Symphony, as well as a unique opportunity to be included in the first-ever sound-art installation exhibition - "a double listen" at the Chinese Cultural Centre San Francisco.
Toolbox Percussion is driving percussive arts programming in Hong Kong, curating ambitious music projects and challenging the best in the field whilst also continually nurturing new musical talent in innovative ways. As a creative incubator, Toolbox Percussion's activities aim to mark new music happen by commissioning, developing, collaborating, rehearsing, performing, recording and touring contemporary performances.
Cultural exchange is an important aspect for the collective, where the group is taking this unique opportunity to showcase their creation from concert hall to exhibition artspace at 41 Ross (https://www.41ross.org/)
Percussion is an expansive art, the preparation requires a lot of expenses in instrument rental and soundproof rehearsal venue. We are extremely lucky to have the support from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in supporting our pre-production activities and artist fees.
While the Chinese Cultural Centre San Francisco and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco partially support our exhibition and cultural exchange initiative.
The goal of this request is to make sure that Toolbox Percussion can be a part of this unique program. The Festival has been successful in raising funds to cover the costs of most of our international guests and now we need a last push to get the company with an important message representing Hong Kong to San Francisco. We hope you can give in support of that goal.
Please give what you can. We are looking for $5,000US to help cover the costs of exhibition fabrication cost, instrument rental logistics cost at San Francisco.
