For a product so important to our health, that we use twice a day our entire lives, its amazing how little attention we pay to the act of brushing our teeth and the products we buy to do so. Cheap, gimmicky manual brushes and overpriced, overweight electric ones are ubiquitous, whatever the brand and we seem to accept that. Indiegogo is a crowd funding platform that allows us to use pre-orders to finance the first stage of mass manufacture. Instead of losing our vision to outside investors, you guys are the investors and get a brush of your choice, before anyone else, in the process!

WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR

We have consulted with dentists and worked closely with fellow designers, engineering partners and our toothbrush manufacturer to research, develop and test every detail of these patent pending brushes to ensure production readiness and adherence to standards.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

All prototypes in the video have been produced at the factory of our toothbrush manufacturing partner to ensure we are showcasing a production ready product. Our wooden handles are hand crafted in a Brooklyn wood shop by an independent worker.

WHAT IS NEXT

byDEFAULT is an exciting new design brand founded by a team of New York based Industrial designers who collaborate on and create beautiful but intelligent everyday products. Head founder Simon Enever , www.simonenever.com, is a British born, New York based industrial designer with years of experience in consumer product and consumer electronics design at several consultancies in Europe and the US, most recently, Fuseproject (NY) and now Lead designer at ECCO design.

WHAT IS "theDEFAULT", "myDEFAULT" AND "byDEFAULT"?  

"theDEFAULT" is the basic white plastic brush package including handle, head and Cap "myDEFAULT" includes “theDEFAULT” and your choice of unique 3D printed handle “byDEFAULT" includes "theDEFAULT" and your choice of premium handle (Metal or wood)

HOW DO I ORDER? 

Read the "WHEN AND HOW DO I GET IT" to decide on a brush package then click the appropriate big grey button on the right hand side to select that option. Then you simply type in your amount, enter your payment and shipping details and you’re done!

WHEN DO I CHOOSE MY COLOR!? 

At the end of the campaign, a survey will be sent around that will ask your preferred color/ material/ finish / chosen design depending on which perk you selected

WHAT TYPE OF BRISTLES ARE YOU USING?

We are planning on supplying ALL brush heads asSOFT, rounded tip, Dupont Nylon bristles as recommended by dentists. If you have a particular need for medium or hard bristles please be in touch or leave a comment and we will assess the demand.

HOW DOES THE BRUSH HEAD PERFORM?

We use the same bristle design, tongue cleaner and vibration motor as the majority of modern brushes and performance will match. We are partnering with oral health experts to bring more "performance" head variants and smarter motors to the platform down the line

WHEN WILL IT COME? 

We are likely to ship in the Summer 2014 and have given a VERY conservative “latest” ship date of September 2014.

ARE YOU ENDORSED BY ANY DENTISTS? 

We carried out extensive research with dentists and we have been partnered with a certified toothbrush manufacture who supplies many large US chains. Dentists are extremely excited by this product and we are looking to announce official endorsements imminently

CAN I BUY THESE ANYWHERE ELSE? IN STORE? 

No, this campaign is the ONLY way to guarantee you can get a toothbrush at launch. we will open up our own online story at www.bydefault.co soon after the campaign ends to accept more pre-orders and allow orders for additional handles

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T REACH $60,000? 

if the total is extremely low you will get your money back, however, if we get a little nearer to our target we will still be able to produce the brushes as per your order as we really believe in this product.
