TURN
The Performance
„TURN” is a dance performance about truth, and we aim to express the nature of it using the words and poems of dance art. The topic of the piece is the individual and critical perspective on truth – as an individual we are not able to experience the entire situation, only just a part of it. By knowing that, and accepting it, a human being is only a small part in a big game, who never can understand our existence.
I think this attitude is closer to the „truth” than surposing that humanity stands in the middle of everything.
In spite of that we are still behaving as if we knew exactly what is wrong or right. This piece creates an opposition between the global, collective truth and reality, and the individual judging perspective. The goal is to make scenes, where spectators can have an immediate impression or a view on what is going on, and turn that scene into something completely different – just to show, and make them aware of the trap of hasty judging.
Who we really are
Besides the video we would like to let you know, that we are a group of people, believing in that what we do, and all of us aim for something more higher, than we can see, touch or hear, or what is part of the everyday life-experience. Dance and music is our path towards what we constantly search by making a note, groove, wave in the body, or a jumping lift with someone.
Artists in this project worked with Robert Miles, Cirque du Soleil, Compagnie Pál Frenák, won martial arts word championships, toured all around the world. They are able to make exceptional performance in dance and in circus art, and ealier they had the opportunity to film with world famous people, like Brad Pitt, László Nemes Jeles, Charlotte Gainsbourg, or performing in Opera houses.
I believe that is a very impressive crew for one project to support!
What We Need & What You Get
When we started this project, we were applying for a funding to the NKA, which is the main art founding council of Hungary. The good news is that we won, but the other thing is that we received only the half of the full budget. In order to make this piece as we imagined we rely on other financial sources, like crowd founding and sponsorship from private sector.
As the choreographer I am committed to pay all artists involved in „TURN”. Artistic Fees for this project will amount to $5060. If we break it down, it is the salary for three dancers and the music composer for one and a half month of work. So each one of them gets $1265.
All other production expenses amount to $1900, which include costumes, stage elements, audio and dance studio rent, PR, a small fee for a lightning technician and designer, indiegogo fee.
Projected box office revenue will amount to around $700.
I will be donating my performer and directing salary back to the production totalling $1700 as a contribution, because I believe in the people involved and the topic of this piece. In my former piece called „Second”, I did the same. I was working for free, but I had the chance to make a very good show, and create field for talented artists!

Right now, I can pay only for 2 artists 2 of them is missing plus the expenses…
We are setting a crowd founding goal of $3426 for this campaign to cover the missing part.
The Impact
Your money will be used to create an honest, live theater performance, that has the power to inspire, question and be meaningful to the audience. Also we are inviting you to be a part of something greater, and to start to make a foundations of a group of artists to make a new earth for the tree of dance art.
Risks & Challenges
The biggest risk in putting this production on independently is going into debt should we not raise the funds we need to cover our expenses. I am committed to this performance, and to paying all artists involved. This production will have it’s premier on the 14th of march 2018, no matter what. A failure to cover or expenses will result in my – Zoltan’s – debt. This is I want to avoid for some reasons:
- Don’t want to be in debt – been there for too many times
- Why I am doing this project is to move forward, and not backwards…
- the money I am raising for this show, I would like to give to the artists I know, and I respect.
- I feel, that with our talent, we also have the responsibility, that we have to spread the word about something, that have an impact on people…
I case the campaign will be only a partial success, we still can use that money to create art, however if we are over the amount, we will spend it for charity.
As theater artists, our greatest challenge is finding way to engage audience. We have to compete with social media, TV, film, anything, that is far more before in nowadays society than theater, human soul, and the question of eternity…
We want to give very natural and self evident topic to the audience, what is not a ready made thing with ready made answers for people. If we can question them, then I believe we have a good purpose to exit as an artist.
