Ubuntu is a Zulu word, meaning one must know the "other" to know oneself. All our fates are tightly bound, whether the other is across the street or across the world. We belong to each other, therefore, we must know each other.
African narratives are reinforced in popular and academic cultures, portraying Africa as "The Dark Continent," a place of wildlife and horror. These limited narratives cannot tell the whole story of this rich and diverse continent.
With our latest book, Uniting a Continent, Tsehai Publishers continues to dispel the dark myths cast over Africa. This book is the first of its kind, as it showcases the
founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and exemplifies the rich and unique cultural heritage of each African nation.
Releasing this book now is crucial, as May 25th marks the end of the 50th Anniversary of the OAU. As we move into the 51st year, we ask you to join us in solidifying this historic moment by helping us publish this book.
Embrace ubuntu, join us in our mission, and donate today!

My name is Elias Wondimu, and I founded Tsehai Publishers in 1998. As a political exile from Ethiopia, my life's mission is to advocate freedom of expression as well as to tell the untold stories of Africa through the publication of literature. At Tsehai Publishers, we give a voice to African writers who would otherwise be unheard. Through these voices, we seek to combat the decades of misinformation and media bias that have reinforced the dehumanization of African people.
Most people want to make the world a better place, and often times Africa becomes the focus of conversation. At Tsehai, we provide a different venue for change. Our mission is rooted in knowledge and empathy, only through true effort to educate can we go beyond popular narratives that show Africa as a helpless continent solely riddled with poverty. We ask you to support literature like this in order to change the dialogue from "Dark Africa" to an empowered and unified Africa.

Uniting a Continent is a beautifully illustrated, first-of-its-kind historical book that profiles the past and present of the Organization of African Unity. We believe this book contributes to the telling of a necessary story, for we cannot understand and plan for Africa's future unless we appreciate the challenges and triumphs of the continent.
