The Team
Umar Writer, Director & Cinematographer
I am an emerging writer and director. I have worked in the film and television industry for half a decade now, on movies such as Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Resident Evil: Retribution, Crossroads, and with television broadcast credits on Rogers, ATN, etc. After producing and directing music videos and short films independently, I decided to launch a production company, Bandit Territory Productions, with Thomas Passilidis.
Veda, our first short film under the banner of Bandit Territory Productions, is an environmental film which highlights our worst fears. Written visually, with minimal dialogues, Veda is a message oriented film with a unique approach to highlight a bleak future due to our current actions. It is called by some “short and powerful”, and some say it’s “visually poetic”.
Thomas Producer, Location Manager & Gaffer
I have produced short films, music videos, and a feature length film and worked on award nominated short films. I want to produce Veda because I feel the message we are trying to convey should be heard by all. My experience as a producer will help this film in many ways.
Maryam Producer & Editor
I studied Film and Television Production from Capilano University in North Vancouver BC and currently work for a television channel as a Producer and Editor. Working in the film and television industry for the past four years, my experience, both as a producer and editor, will help bring Veda to the screen.
Kinza Producer of Marketing and Distribution
Hi my name is Kinza. I come from a marketing/advertising background. I strongly believe in the concept and message of Veda and am very attached to the project as I have been involved with it from the early stages of the idea. I feel that we need to make a conscious effort around us to preserve the environment and while that is the obvious message of the film, I feel that I can relate to the character of Veda on many different levels. I am very excited to work on this film.
Larry playing VEDA
My name is Larry Harris, I'm a mid 50's Canadian. The past decade has had me in front of the camera for movies such as Cinderella Man, How To Lose a Guy in 10 days, Martin Lewis Story, numerous TV shows and commercials along with modeling for Leather Ranch, General Motors and more. Having been out of the industry for the past few years it is with much pride I jump back into the entertainment industry by using Veda as my launching platform.
The reasons are 2 fold, one is the fact I am able to work with an up and coming director who can see the direction the industry is going yet not afraid to add his flair and take on views important to all. The second has much to do with the fact, as mentioned earlier, that I am a father of 2, step father of 2 more and uncle to another 4. Having always been a person who enjoys nature and aware we need to take better care of our earth and have seen progress since the 60's but wish there was more. As my age progresses and having children has made the importance of making the earth a better, safer, healthier place for my children and grandchildren to grow up in.
Society is certainly aware of the frailty of planet earth but some get so tied up on other things in their life, work, material things, looking good, etc. that the health of the planet that provides much of this goes to the back of the mind, Veda is a movie that helps to put it back to the forefront of people’s minds which can only help the earth and the future of all children of the world, now and in the future.
