So, what exactly IS Videobox?
Videobox is an indie sci-fi adventure short film that comes from a simple idea: what if the characters starring in classic VHS tapes could come alive and interact with each other?
When the Videobox VHS rental shop gets struck by lightning, the character's inside each of the tapes finds that they can cross over into each other's worlds. Henrietta, the heroine of award-winning period drama 'The Lady By the Lake' and Zenobius, reluctant villain of B-Movie 'Harrison Darkstar 2' form an unlikely friendship and must work together to escape the paths that seem to have been scripted for them. Can Henrietta escape the marriage her cruel father has forced upon her?Can Zenobius turn away from his villainous ways?
All this and more will be made clear in VIDEOBOX!
Sounds cool! Who is making it?
Director: Ben Fullman
Ben is an aspiring director with plenty of accolades to his name and a wealth of experience to draw upon. Ben's first-hand knowledge of 90s film (he was an avid VHS collector himself back in the day!) will bring a unique and personal slant to Videobox. His short film Coffee has won the 2014 Audidence Award at Cornwall Film Festival. Ben's first short film 'Red' was selected at the Sundance London Film Festival and very recently his short film '999' was aired on BBC Three as part of a horror competition called 'The Fear'. .
Fun Fact: As a child, Ben had a crippling phobia of the rear carriages of trains. Not the whole train - just the last carriage.
Writer and VFX supervisor: Ben Gratton
Ben is the wildly creative mind behind both the original idea of Videobox and the technical realisation of the wide range of VFX that will help tell the story the way he visualised it while writing! Ben has won Best single-camera drama at the South Downs college film festival for his film 'At Deaths Doorstep'.
Fun Fact: Ben has been on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland Paris five times over four days.
Ben's showreel can be seen here:
Producer: Tom Allen
Tom is a passionate producer who has worked on many small-scale productions. As an avid consumer of 90's pop culture and general film nerd, Tom is well placed to oversee the production from initial conception all the way to screen. He's also rather handy with a calculator, which helps with the business and production side of film making.
Fun Fact: Tom is directly related to William the Conqueror, who is his 31st great grandfather.
Director of Photography: Jack Flowers
Jack is our talented DoP whose extensive knowledge of all things cinema is going to bring the project to screen. He is a dedicated sci-fi fan who is keen to bring this project to life in a way that only film can. With a wide range of technical skills, an adventurous and creative mind and a talented camera team behind him, Jack is more than capable of expressing the variety of different genres and styles of films that Videobox required.
Fun Fact: Jack also has the proven ability to solve a Rubix cube in 3 minutes or less.
Jack's showreel can be seen here:
Production Designer: Gareth Rowntree
Gareth is the man responsible for overseeing the designing and building each of the different worlds that Videobox takes place in. Everything from the video shop itself to the out of this world alien planet is thanks to Gareth and his extensive production design department's dedication, hard work and creative energy.
Fun Fact: Gareth has planted a tree with both of the Weasley twins.
Plenty more coming soon...
How much do you need?
Videobox is a huge challenge from a film making perspective, and that's part of what makes it appealing to us as young and ambitious filmmakers. We will be following the journey of several different characters, visiting three unique worlds each with their own distinct aesthetic and style and utilising a range of special effects to fully tell the story the way it was meant to be told.
For these reasons, we have worked out that the film is in need of a budget of £7000 to tell the story we want to tell. Here is a graph to show how the money will be broken down:

Okay, so whats in it for me?
I'm glad you asked! We've got a bunch of really fun rewards on offer, ranging from copies of the DVD all the way up to one-of-a-kind rewards like the Videobox Shop Sign or Darkstars laser gun!
There are also different ways to leave a mark on the film of your own creation! Backers can choose to submit a film title of their own invention to the filmmakers, and we will create a VHS tape of the film to be displayed somewhere in the videobox shop!
Have a look at all of the avaliable perks and see if any take your fancy!
But what if i can't afford to help?
We understand that currently money might not be as easy to come by as it was in the 90's... however the means of sharing information has come on leaps and bounds! If you want to help make Videobox a reality, give our Facebook page a like, check out our Instagram and Twitter pages, share our campaign far and wide and spread the word!
Finally, we'd just like to say a big thank you on behalf of the whole Videobox team for checking out our page.
We hope you enjoy following the creative and exciting journey across time, space and the 90s that is Videobox!
