What is the WardiTV Korean Royale?
The WardiTV Korean Royale is a $10,000 event put on by WardiTV to help support the Korean scene following the saddening news of the GSL prize pool cuts. The initial tournament is completely funded by WardiTV with this campaign allowing the community a way to help fund a future event to continue supporting the Korean scene. Our main goal is to provide as much additional support to Korean players as possible this year. While we will not be able to replace the lost prize money in GSL we are hoping any amount of support may help some players to continue playing.
We are running the first tournament fully funded and guaranteed as a show of good will to the Korean scene & the community. We see it as a chance to show what you can expect from supporting a second edition of this event, while also being able to take feedback and tweak the format, prize distribution or other things as necessary for a second tournament.
The first event is running throughout March and April 2023 and if we are succesful in the crowd funding we will aim to run the second season between GSL S1 and GSL S2. This should allow us to mitigate any scheduling conflicts with other tournaments, allowing for a smooth experience for all. We expect to generate around 10 streams of SC2 content with this event, plus additional days for any qualifiers we host.
Stretch Goals
We will look to provide some additional bonuses / guarantees based on the amount of crowdfunding received.
£5,000 - $6,000 - Initial Goal
Our initial goal allows us to guarantee the second season of the WardiTV Korean Royale. We would use this as a base prize pool and could potentially add more ourselves depending on the success of the first event.
£7,500 - $9,000 - Prize Pool Guarantee & Bonus 2v2 Event
With this amount of funding we can guarantee the Season Two prize pool will match what we put up for Season One at $10,000. We will also be able to put some additional work into graphics/videos to help improve the viewing experience of the tournament and our potential reach to viewers.
We will also run a bonus 2v2 event, likely a small one day event with 4 teams of players, as some additional content and as a thanks for your support.
£10,000 - $12,000 - Season Two Prize Pool Cap
At this goal we will be capping the prize pool of Season Two and putting further funding towards a third edition of the tournament. We believe putting money into additional events is more beneficial than raising the prize pool of a single event at this stage, as it will allow us to generate more revenue to put back into prize money (from additional streaming days, additional promotion days, additional days to potentially sell to sponsors etc.)
£12,500 - $15,000 - Additional Funding for Season 3
We will continue to put money toward Season 3 prize money. If our crowdfunding is extremely succesful we will revisit these stretch goals and provide further details and additional bonuses.
Risks and Challenges
We have already fully guaranteed Season One of the tournament and this crowdfunding is an attempt to make this more than a one time thing. If the community interest and support is enough we can continue to run these events to try and aid the Korean StarCraft 2 scene.
I have been running professional StarCraft 2 tournaments for ten years now and hence have all the required knowledge and expectations going in to be able to put on a strong and entertaining event.
Other ways to help
Can't afford to support the campaign? Tuning into the event alone is a fantastic way to support the event and possible future iterations.
