Short Summary
A group of teenage girls embark on a 5-month
training and leadership program, which takes them to Machu Picchu, one of the 7
Wonders of the World. The Wellfit Girls Challenge is the opportunity of a
lifetime, yet pushes the girls to the limit. From the beaches of Florida to the
peaks of Peru, their adventure provides a path to personal discovery and
transformation.
Why Warrior One?
The Warrior archetype represents loyalty, vision, strength, focus and service. Warrior One Pose in yoga is intended, among other physical benefits, to develop the inner qualities of the Warrior essential to developing our greatest personal and spiritual potential.
Jill Wheeler, founder of the Wellfit Girls Leadership and Empowerment program and producer of Warrior One discovered her purpose and took action. Her mission to support, empower and inspire teen girls to believe in themselves unfolds in this exciting and inspiring journey.
"I was an at risk teen, but no one knew how much pain I was holding inside. The day I started believing in myself, there was no going
back", says Wheeler. "I wanted to create a program that would empower teen girls and teach them
that they can climb high in all areas of life no matter how low they felt about
themselves or life. I suffered from fear, anxiety and depression and experienced
profound relief and comfort from time in nature–playing, exploring and
adventuring. After planning and successfully executing a solo backpacking
trip in the remote mountains when I was 21, I discovered the therapeutic power of nature. I had found my calling to help others.”

In the beginning, yoga, fitness and leadership training are as foreign as the lands they come to visit. Over time, they embrace the opportunity for growth and dedicate themselves week after week. Their commitment to group principles and expedition behaviors ultimately unifies them.

While there are setbacks and breakdowns throughout the adventure, success means redefining these obstacles as opportunities, which completely changes their lives for the better.

Once

to raise awareness and money for future girls to empower themselves as leaders
that positively impact their communities and ultimately change the world.
The Impact
Warrior One is more than a movie, it's a movement. We created this documentary to inspire other girls to become leaders. As strong leaders, our girls face adversity and accept challenges in life as opportunities to learn and grow.
All teens face social pressure and need boundaries and support as they navigate these challenging years. From depression and anxiety, bullying and self harm, sexual health and relationships, drugs, alcohol and academic pressure, teens face important decisions about how they want to show up in the world every day.
The power of the group and the intentional use of the wilderness in Adventure Therapy provides novel situations where participants are faced with stereotypical or personal patterns in stressful or challenging situations. The deliberate use of metaphor is a tool in the transformation process. By overcoming these obstacles in this program, they learn to overcome adversities everywhere. This type of learning transfers to all aspects of life.
- The power of a pro-social community like the Wellfit Girls Program builds confidence and promotes leadership.
- The Wellfit Girls have incredible stories to share, stories that
will inspire other teens across the country and all over the world. The film
touches on several key issues facing youth today, from depression and
anxiety to self-harm and abuse, body issues and poverty.
-
This film shows the positive effects that Adventure Therapy has on lasting self-esteem.
- The girls have already made impactful change in just the last 10 months of their lives.
"I wanted to set a different mentality in me. I wanted to prove that I could do anything I set my mind to in this program and in life."
~ Maria Guerrero
"I used to think that I had to have money to make a difference in the world. After being in Peru and being with the kids there, I know I can be a positive influence in my own community. I already have so much to offer right now."
~ Evelyn Pacheco
"It was so empowering to see what an impact I had on the lives of the children in Peru in such a short time. It makes me realize I am capable of so much more than I ever thought."
~ Kendall Klein
