A few years ago, I had an idea to combine two genres I have an absolute love for: Third person Point and Click Adventures, and First Person Horror. In 2022, I started developing it.
In "We Are Not Alone" you're able to switch between these two points of view in order to explore and solve puzzles.

The primary purpose of this campaign is to raise funds for three things:
- Voice Actors
- Sound Designer
- Composer
Each of these three can range from $2,500 AUD to $5,000 AUD - which, for a solo developer with no external funding support, can be difficult to justify!
What if I *don't* reach that goal though?
In the case that the goal isn't reached, but funds are still raised from the campaign, this will still go towards hiring of required talent, but further money will come from my own pocket or contract negotiations will take place for royalties.

The world may be going to hell, but Riley's worries extend beyond that.
3 months ago Riley's Sister applied for a job with the Osiris Initiative, the world leader in medical technology. Despite initially having a way to contact her, daily communications have ceased. Something isn't right.
Attempting to locate her sister by using connections at her job, Riley is fired for gross misconduct with no answers.
Applying to be a test subject with the Osiris Initiative, Riley hopes to gain information on the illusive organisation and ultimately find her sister.
That is... if the experiment is as safe as they said.

The best part about any crowdfunding campaign - what do YOU get?!
There are some really cool rewards (the community said so!) such as including your own short stories in the game that people can read, leaving voicemails to be found around the underground facility all the way to designing a puzzle in the game!
If you're looking for something a little more physical, you can add-on things such as T-Shirts, Sticker Packs and Handmade Keychains (note that these are included in the highest tier, but you can add more!).
As an added bonus, if the campaign goal is reached, all backers will be elligible to also receive a video (after launch) where I go through all the old builds of We Are Not Alone and talk about the game design!

There are quite a few extras I would love to add to the game right out of the gate, but they both require extra funding and extra time.
Note: While neither will delay the release of the game, console porting will not take place until after development has completed. In terms of console porting, dev rights have already been granted for Nintendo Switch development with other consoles under consideration.
$12,000 AUD - Translations to German, French, Spanish and Italian.
$16,000 AUD - Dedicated time for switch console porting and purchasing of a development kit.
Any funding received after the highest stretch goal will go towards further translations (based on community input and number of requests).

Risks & Challenges
If a game developer tells you there are no risks, you know they're lying! The risks for this project are as follows:
Solo Developer - As a solo developer, if anything happens to me due to illness, the game would be delayed. In the event anything drastic happens to me, all remaning funding, the source code and project files will be handed off to a capable developer.
Not Meeting Funding Goals - For a lot of crowd funded games, they are based entirely on meeting their funding goals. As outlined earlier, the project can be completed without extra funding, but it would add extra features and make the whole experience better.
Missing The Release Date - The estimated delivery for We Are Not Alone is Early 2024. Although all care is taken during project and time management, it is an inherent risk of game development that sometimes issues arise that can cause delays. These include: major bugs found, illness, hardware malfunction.
Hardware Malfunction - A very basic risk, but something that is always good to clear up. All project work is backed up using Source Control, as well as manual daily backups.
I Can't Back The Project - Can I Still Help?
Of course you can! If you know of anyone who loves horror games or adventure games, let them know! Indiegogo has some built in sharing tools that make it a lot easier too!
