Short Summary

  • Jen Araki is passionate about impacting the lives of less fortunate young men, women, and children, and has spent much of her life volunteering--most recently, in the inner city of Los Angeles both as a mentor to foster youth and an advocate for social involvement and change. Her inspiration for creating this film grew from the compassion, shocking truth, and positive experiences she's had with foster youth, specifically three young men she has mentored; Mike, Ty, and Benson. Brook Whitmore became actively involved with the foster world in Los Angeles when he began working on this film. This involvement drew him to become an active mentor for a number of the young people he crossed paths with. He was amazed at the impact that simple gestures of kindness and caring could make on these young people and how receptive they were to it. He has been captivated by the stories, personalities, and opportunity to make a REAL and lasting impact on the lives of the young men, women, and children in the foster care system and feels blessed to have the opportunity to work so closely with them. • The importance of this campaign stretches far beyond any one person. It is about helping give an opportunity and voice to a fragmented community of people that are often disregarded, discarded, and forgotten.
  • This is not a cry for help, this is a call to action. Your involvement in this project will help make a REAL difference in the young and impressionable lives of people who are destined to fail without assistance. The foster care system in Los Angeles county and throughout America is in the midst of the largest crisis in its history, the only scaleable solution is personal involvement from others. This project aims to compound the involvement of many and catalyze the involvement of many more. This project is tangible proof that WE can make a difference.

What We Need & What You Get

  • We are aiming to raise a minimum of $35,000 as a bare bones production budget to help cover basic expenses and conservatively compensate the key personal who have already so generously volunteered a great deal of their time. We have a stretch target goal of $100,000 which will allow for full time efforts, increased production standards, more coverage, a higher quality film, and ultimately increase the likelihood of distribution which WILL raise awareness! Either way every dollar raised will be stretched and put toward the area of most need. We have already been shooting for four months and will be going for at least another six, help us continue the push to the end.

  • Without sounding too cliche, the reward in becoming involved with this project is being able to help make a real difference in the lives of people who really need it. We have a simple perk structure that will keep you connected to the creators and this project as it makes its journey through the world.
  • If we are able to surpass our fundraising goal it will mean that we can begin taking bigger steps and including add ons that will increase the quality and reach of the final product. That means bringing on more experienced personnel and not taking short cuts due to budget constraints. If we are not able to meet our our fundraising goal, the game plan will remain the same, it will just mean that we will need to make cuts in places that may ultimately affect the end result.

The Impact

  • In working on this project it has become abundantly clear that the simplest things mean a great deal to these young men, women, and children. Whether it's a phone call, showing up at an event, going to lunch or a movie, these gestures mean more than most people can imagine and ultimately shows these folks that someone really cares. The potential for this project to have a lasting and tangible impact on these young people is huge. It not only gives them a voice but it also shows ways that simple involvement in their lives makes can make all of the difference in determining their future.

Other Ways You Can Help

  • There are many ways that you can get involved that doesn't include donating monetarily, not everyone can and that's ok! Every share, post, and old fashioned word of mouth message helps. If you can't donate $ please post to your FB, give us a shout out on twitter, and email the link to friends and family who'm you think would like to get involved! Or perhaps most importantly get involved in your area--mentor, volunteer, and give these young men, women, and children a chance to beat the odds.
