Who Interactive What?
Quest Interactive Productions has been running LARP events in the Connecticut area for over 20 years. We focus on high fantasy, especially our continuing gameworld, which has seen well over a hundred events. If you're new to Quest, check out our New Player Guide for a more detailed rundown.
Quest has run a fair number of weekend-long events in the past, but renting a site is expensive - and while people don't have to pay admission until the day of game, site fees need to be paid up front. Which brings us here: this campaign is designed to accumulate the necessary funds to run the game, so we can afford to bring you the best possible gaming experience.
What's on the table here?
We're aiming for a total of $4000, which is enough to rent the campsite, as well as pay for food and props materials.
For this game, we're hoping to book Camp Cedarcrest, located in Orange, CT. Quest staff have looked over this new site, and it works great for our needs. (Check out the details, and some pictures, here.) The game will run from Friday evening to Sunday around noon.
The game dates we're looking at are April 22-24, 2016, so save the date!
If just the prospect of having a weekend game isn't enough, we also have some excellent donation rewards!
$10 gets you a copy of the video game based on The Long Way Home, so even if you can't make it to the event itself, you can share the experience - and if you can, you'll have a replayable reminder of the weekend's shenanigans. The game will be available for PC from Swan Princess Games in summer 2016, so as to recreate The Long Way Home as it ends up happening live, bizarre war stories and all.
$25 provides you with a custom in-game bonus in the form of a minor divine blessing. What you get depends on your character's stats and needs, but all will come in handy.
$40 donations receive a handmade Quest papercraft bookmark by co-GM Alisha Richman. Take a look at the design below:

Bookmarks are scheduled to ship January 2016, giving you a pleasant reminder closer to game time.
$75 covers your game entry fee, allowing you to pre-register and save $20 off the at-the-door cost of entry. Besides the fiscal advantage, it's also easier for GM staff to calibrate challenges if they know who's coming.
$125, besides the lower-tier items, adds a bonus Lore sheet available only to Indiegogo sponsors. What secret and forbidden knowledge will be included? That would be telling. But suffice to say that something not even Sages can automatically know is probably extremely forbidden.
$150 adds the option for a custom holy symbol dedicated to the (Quest) divinity and sect of your choice. If you pick this reward, we'll be in touch with you after the campaign ends to find out your specific request.
$300 donors will have their character not just appear in The Long Way Home video game, but actively feature as PCs within the game. Haven't you always wanted to be a video game character? You know you have. For obvious logistical reasons, only 6 sponsors can receive this reward.
$500, our highest rewards tier, provides all the unrestricted lower-tier rewards but also will allow you to take home some of our game-specific props after the event. Do you want your very own [spoiler], [spoiler], or handmade [spoiler]?
The Long Way Home
Quest's Events Committee has already processed and approved a proposal for The Long Way Home, with GM team Jackie Anderson, Beth Goldgar, and Alisha Richman. For some idea of what to expect (before everything goes horribly wrong), check out the teaser:
Following the successes of previous efforts to tame the northern wilds
of his domain, King Dmitri of Ragnorack has granted a charter for a new
settlement to be established at the edge of the kingdom. The young and
charismatic Lord Friedrich Kieferholt, a younger son of one of King Dmitri's
advisors, led the settlers as they struck out from their staging point in
Marilyna as soon as the snows melted enough for the ground to be clear,
following the shores of Lake Hrungar to what would become the site of their new
settlement.
To the delight of Lord Kieferholt and his settlers, they discovered a
sheltered and welcoming river valley in the foothills of the Worldspine
Mountains, with fertile soil and ample lumber available from the untamed
forests. There, they carved out a home for themselves, working hard through the
spring and summer to erect homes and clear land for fields. By autumn, the
people of the new colony of Elsbethhalden – named for the second-born daughter
of King Dmitri – had completed the buildings and fortifications needed to
protect them from the harsh Ragnorackan weather and the predations of the
savage creatures known to stalk the northern reaches of the kingdom.
The settlers' preparations saw them through the first harsh winter of
the isolated northern reaches, and their success has encouraged other hopefuls
to relocate to the new lands. In addition, the homesteaders of Elsbethhalden
are now looking beyond mere survival, and seek to create more comforts and
long-term necessities in their new home. To that end, Lord Kieferholt has
announced an open invitation for skilled craftspeople, traders, woodsmen,
guards, and other brave and talented souls to come to Elsbethhalden and aid in
the efforts of the settlers. His Lordship promises that those who come to lend
their hands to the completion of the settlement will be generously compensated
for their hard work.
Here's what else we know (and can share): The Long Way Home is a deadly game (as weekend games tend to be), as well as being heavily-plotted and high-action. However, there will be loads of opportunities for any skillset or play preferences.
After the crowdfunding campaign concludes, everyone who's paid for registration will be contacted by the GM team to ask about any dietary or medical needs, as well as to check in on some plot-related character choices.
Some rules you should know: For anyone considering attending for the first time, Quest has a fairly basic code of conduct. No live steel, real weapons, alcohol, or illegal drugs are permitted at the event. Further, sexual abuse and sexual assault are considered inappropriate topics at a Quest event. Real-world racial and other slurs are also inappropriate and will not be tolerated.
All attendees must be 16 years of age or older; anyone under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian in order to play. If for whatever reason you are unable to engage in physical combat, Quest has noncombatant rules in place.
If you have any other safety or comfort concerns, info@quest.org will reach the Secretary, who will be happy to check or arrange whatever will help you have a good time. Her happiness is certain, as she is the one writing this sentence.
What if...?
What's going to happen if we don't meet our goal? Well, we'll be sad, obviously, but the closer we get to our goal, the more likely we'll be able to cut enough corners to push the game through anyway. Of course, it won't be as awesome as it could be without your help.
On a more cheerful note, Quest as an organization has been running LARP events since 1991. We have solid experience, both in our GM staff and in general. We even have a proposal ready! In short, if we do make our goal, there need be no worry about the game failing to take place, pending unavoidable circumstances, natural disasters, and so forth. Past weekend games have been a lot of fun, controlled chaos and all, and we have every expectation of being able to bring you an equally delightful experience.
And if we exceed our goal? The first stretch goal will be revealed when we reach $3500, so if you want to see what exciting bonuses we've thought of, you know how to make that happen!
What else can I do?
Don't have money to contribute? Or don't have enough money to commit to registration right away? That's fine with us! Tell your friends, tell their friends, just spread enthusiasm around until some of it sticks!
Pre-registration will be open until a month before the game, so even if you can't pay right now, you're not missing your chance to attend at the reduced price. Contact longwayhome@quest.org at any time to register or ask game-related questions.
Or, if you have more time than money, we can always use NPC staff! Fighters, face characters, and kitchen staff would all be deeply appreciated at any level of experience. Again, contact longwayhome@quest.org if you're interested.
