What's Mine is Yours tells my family story. I'm from a small mining settlement in Kosice, Slovakia. My mother and I moved to the UK four years ago due to circumstances forcing us to leave home. Our neighborhood consists of 11 houses originally built for mining families- one of which were my grandparents. In 2001 the houses were illegally sold off to the current owner (a property developer) without anyone's knowledge after the nearby magnesium mine closed down.
11 families have been living with restricted water access, illegal constructions in their gardens and constant worry of being thrown out of their homes for over 15 years. All of this on top of a magnesium and uranium deposit. After years of battling for justice, learning the ins and outs of law procedures, my mother is still holding onto her childhood home.
In this film I am returning back home, to places with my most fond memories but all I find is an empty house- a skeleton of what used to be our home. My aim is to capture the power of one corrupt country over individuals and the effects it had on me and my family. I want to focus on examining the relationship between my mother and the house she grew up in- her driving force and motivation to hold onto the most humble even though it would be easier to let go.
Your contributions will help me tell my story- which is just one of many. Immigration is an increasingly popular topic and with all the negative connotations, it is easy to forget that each individual has a reason to emigrate from their home. Circumstances often force an individual into difficult decisions, whether that's social or economic situations, healthcare, corruption or war. My film is for anyone who misses their home but doesn't have a home to return to.

Hi! My job is to take some of the organisin my way so that Klara can focus on the most important park of the documentary- the story. There is a very emotional story within this film which is screaming to be told. I also think that there is a massive audience to be reach due to speaking out about issues from outside of the UK.

When I first started thinking about creating this documentary, I had in mind a version much closer to a TV style expose. Since then, this project has developed so much and I believe it improved with each edit. Since then I have boiled the story down to what is most captivating to me- human relationships and determination of one individual. The risks of this project are that it may develop even further, however I will always stay true to what I believe is the most interesting and compelling part of the story.
