If you went to summer camp as a child then perhaps you
will remember what an empowering experience it was: the thrill, the
laughter of new friends, the guidance of mentors and role models, your new
sense of independence and confidence.
At summer camp at Scottie’s Place children hike through old
forests, canoe fast water, plunge to the coldest depths of the pond on a hot
summer day, discover shooting stars and fireflies, and share inspiring stories
around the campfire. This campaign seeks to bring twenty children to
Scottie’s Place for summer, 2014.

The mission of Scottie’s Place is to empower and educate
children affected by poverty and conflict. With your help, children from the
Appalachian region as well as resettled refugee youth from Louisville, KY will
visit Scottie’s Place this summer. For hundreds of children, Scottie’s Place
has been the time of their lives – at a time in their lives of great crisis and
challenge. Campers canoe, swim, cook over an open fire, build and create
art, participate in daily tutoring, team building and leadership training.
Together, staff and children create a community of adventurers and friends.
Campers are supported through challenges on many levels and discover how strong
and talented they are.
Since 1999, Scottie’s Place has been providing programs to
inspire and educate. Programs have included Wilderness Adventure Camp, the Teen
Art Program, After-School Tutoring, Weekend Adventures, classes at the
Leadership Academy and most recently, The Leadership Education &
Empowerment Program, now being implemented in the Dukwi refugee camp in
Botswana, Africa.
The cost for this summer's camp program is $20,000 –
approximately $100 per day per child and includes food, gear, supplies,
transportation, insurance, and a 2 to 1 child-staff ratio. Scottie's Place
has always provided Wilderness Adventure Camp to children free of charge thanks
to the generous gifts of our supporters. Our goal is to raise $15,000
through this campaign and generate the remaining funds through
additional fundraising initiatives. We have created some very special
“perks” (t-shirts, retreats and hand-made art books) for our great supporters.
From the Appalachian Mountains to Botswana, Scottie’s Place
is creating a legacy of youth transformed. As you consider the future of our
world, please contribute what you can to provide children the experience of
Scottie’s Place.
