WOMEN'S SHOWCASE 2016:
Gathering for an evening of sharing, we aim to create a space that celebrates the accomplishments of female artists, specifically movement makers. This festival will showcase performances by female choreographers and performance artists, as well as feature female visual artists, researchers, and musicians.
In addition to highlighting the work of female artists of various mediums, the festival hopes to further strengthen the performing arts community in Charlotte by bringing artists together and creating a dialogue between the audience and performers concerning work that is being made through the female lens.
With your contribution, we are inviting you to be a part of this festival!
What We Need:
At last years Women's Showcase, we asked our artists for $40 each for
the chance to perform. After the success of the show, we were able to
pay the artists back their investment tripled! This year, we hope to
forgo this fee to the artist and allow them to solely focus on creating.
We are raising funds to allow our artists the space to create without worrying about having to pay to perform.
Our costs to bring this festival to the community include:
- space rental
- theatre staff
- advertisement
- stipends for traveling artists
- payment to videographers/photographers
In return, you the contributor will get recognized as a supporter of the festival, PLUS we have some awesome perks for Lady Fest VIPs!
Mission:
Women's Showcase seeks to draw the public’s eye to the important work of female artists by facilitating a cross-disciplinary festival that features the women leaders of our arts community.
Challenges:
Though female dancers and female choreographers may
out number male dancers/choreographers, we have found from personal
experience elsewhere and in Charlotte, that men receive the majority of the awards,
grants, support, opportunities, leadership roles and recognition.
While we do not aim to discredit or exclude the accomplishments of our male partners, we desire to draw attention to the voices of the women in our field and give them the opportunity to share their own stories.
Other Ways You Can Help:
Come see the show! We would appreciate your support and would love to see you there. If you want to see more festivals like this happen, share this page with your friends!
