What is World of Castles?

World of Castles is an online action-strategy game set in the medieval times. It features a unique combination of constructing your own castle from a large number of blocks, besieging castles of other players, commanding your marshals who collectively lead armies of up to thousand men, and participating in battles as one of these marshals in 1st person view.

What is unique on World of Castles

You can create something, and your creation will not only a be a work of art, but it will have a purpose too. You can test your castle in battles against other players to prove that you did something damn good. Later come the battles, our central point of attention. The fights will be full of action, tactics, realistic atmosphere and thousands of soldiers. The absolute chaos of the battle, wherever you look. All that seen by the eyes of a lord, who stands in the first line. It is this feeling we want to make you experience and why we are here and asking for funds. 
And what are you doing in that fight? You are defending your very own special castle which you have built and you are so proud of! Can it withstand the battle? Will we defend our castle? Who knows... 

 

Why we are on Indiegogo

We have spent 2 years working hard and investing a lot of personal funds to do what you can see. Now as our funds dimnish more and more, we need your help to continue. We would also like to expand our development team to at least 5 people. We know that you deserve to play the perfect game and all the work still awaiting us must be done within a reasonable time. So this is a great way to speed up the development, and in the same time, to get the most valuable feedback from our players.

 

Where our funds go

All costs for the remaining development of 20 months are estimated at 400 000$. Why are we only asking for 25 000$? Surely it will not sustain the entire development, but it is the starting kick-off. More money will come startup programs for begining companies. Some funds will also come from Steam, and the rest we will get from investors. Indiegogo is the crucial start, where we can show our game to you and start our long journey of making this game a reality.

Why we decided to make this game

The answer is simple, we wanted so badly to play the game in our heads… However, no similiar game was on the market, so we decided to create it on our own. Once we realized we are able to finish this project, we dug into the creation process with passion. We decided to give the game all the time we have, left our jobs and just do everything for it.

 

Who could like World of Castles

When using your creativity, do you enjoy having an absolute control of everything? Feel free to build your castle from scratch, exactly as you like it. No clue about putting blocks together? Not a problem, you have an option to select from various pre-made castles. You can still keep improving on them or do not not change anything at all. There is one thing you do have to like though - battle! You can enjoy face to face fighting with enemies, swords dancing everywhere while other soldiers cover your back. Or you can excel at tactics, commanding your other marshalls. In this game, simply enjoy whatever you like the most!

 

Basics of the game

Building your own castle

From the beginning each player has a pool of few starting blocks and items which he can use to build his first castles. Participation in battles earns you money and experience. With money you can buy more blocks while with experience you will level up which opens new blocks and other building possibilities. Each player also has a fame limit which is based on his current level. Fame limit indicates how many blocks and items player can place on his castle as these has their own fame value. Each piece has its own use as boiling pitch or ballista for defensive purposes, beds for more soldiers, plants and arts for better moral and so on. Players needs to balance these to find the most effective way to play on current level.

 

Fighting

When a player decides to fight other players, game itself find an opponent with the most similar castle fame. At the beginning of each battle attacker deploys his marshals to the field while defender deploys his marshals inside his castle. Players then give first commands to their marshals and begin fight in 1st person view. Throughout each battle each side has a few tactical calls to give new orders to their marshals from the top down view. Attacker wins if he kills all the enemy marshals or captures the throne in a given time limit. Defender wins if he kills all the enemy marshals or survive the time limit. Players has also a chance to invite their friends to battle. In this case both players fame is add up and the game finds one equivalent defender.


Campaigns

From time to time we plan to publish shorter single player campaigns based on storytelling and role playing. First one will teach the player all the game mechanics while the others will by inspired by true historical stories. For completing these stories player is awarded with other useful blocks, units, items, flags etc. Tutorial campaign and one or two normal campaigns will be accessible to everybody from the beginning.

Monetary Model

Game copy is priced at 25$. With standard game copy you get all features released in the future with this game unlockable for ingame money. So what means season pass or lifetime pass? We want to release new campaign twice a year (after release) and it will be avaible a month sooner to whom who will buy an early access to a campaign for an reasonable price (est as 0.50-1$ per mission). Or you can wait a month and unlock that campaign for ingame currency. Also we will offer premium accounts to get more experience and ingame currency from battles for a fair price (4$ per month or less for longer terms). Why we decided to use this model? We want to make game living, neverending development, we can always improve textures, models, add new campaigns and add new gaming mods. And there we would like to get some extra funds from you, to support our efforts in that way without persuading everyone to "pay, or you will be penalized".

 

Perks

Early bird, alpha and beta access perks ara avaible in early birds, it means if you came among first you can get the game for even much better price!

Alpha access - means you will be avaible to play the game as the first!

Beta access - beta access can still get into the game before the game is oficialy released, but you have to wait longer time, than players in alpha access.

Season pass - means you get 2 campaigns released in the first season unlocked month sooner, than it become avaible for in game currency and absolutely for free.

Lifetime pass - you will get all the stuff ever added to the game among first ones and for free.

Lifetime premium account - you will have neverending premium account, meaning your ingame currency and experience is gathered faster.

Risks and challanges

Gameplay change - As a lot of features are ahead of us there might some features might be added or changed in the name of performance, or it will improve the gameplay or graphics. All such changes will be announced to community through forums and change notes.  Also all change progress will be reflected through social media, so you can keep an eye, what we are doing and give a feedback.

Delivery delay - It is very usual that some games nowadays get delayed, we count with some reserves. But this might happen even to us. This might be mainly caused by development of AI, which needs to be at a good level to make battles serious and enjoyable. We would announce some kind of compensation in this case (longer premium account, campaign ticket etc.). But we will do anthing to keep deadlines, anyway you will be able to watch our progress.

soft game resets during alpha or beta - there might be some patches that might entirely change the game, or game logic, so you might have to rebuild your castle, but we will make sure, your effort put into the game will not be forgotten.

 

Team behind the game

Jakub Hamerník found his new hobby in board game design 7 years ago. „I have started to gain experience when trying to create a video game developer team. Yet we lost programmers on multiple occasions as they got offers from renowned studios... So then I learned 3D graphics and decided to start working on games alone, and learn the entire development pipeline. I wanted to be different and start with one bigger project, rather than many smaller ones. That is how World of Castles got its first few rows of code 2 years ago. 2 years of restless work...“


Michal Hamerník joined the one man team in summer 2016 as a graphic designer with a lot of experience with 3D graphics. He also has a degree in technical engineering.


Darío Blanco joined our team in winter 2016 to compose the game soundtrack.
