Mountain Filled 2 Projects Mountain Filled 2 Projects

I am a 25-year old independent researcher and writer. I have my own website (www.andrewgavinmarshall.com) and have been running a writing project for nearly one year, The People's Book Project, which is a crowd-funded project aiming to write a series of books on a radical history of power and resistance in the modern world, taking a highly critical and heavily researched look at institutions and ideas of social, political, economic, cultural, psychological and historical power. However, I only have a small following and limited resources.

My objective is to get the first book in the series out as soon as possible, since it is dealing with issues relevant to everyone's lives: the global economic crisis (its causes and consequences), and the development of anti-austerity movements around the world in resistance to the economic crisis and the actions of elites: from Greece, to Spain, Portugal, the U.K., Iceland, Chile, Mexico, Quebec, and beyond.

It seems that everywhere in the world, people my age are taking to the streets and finding creative new ways of resisting power, repression, impoverishment and exploitation. Whether Egypt, Spain, or here where I live in Quebec, it is the youth who are rising up against the excesses of elites, youth who graduate university with degrees and no job opportunities, who follow the 'rules' and are left with nothing but debts, who expected the world, and got the boot.

My objective with this first book in the series is to arm the youth - and others - of the world with a radical exposé of the institutions, individuals, and ideas of domination, and, alternatively, of resistance and revolution. I seek to bring information and analysis to what seems to be an ever-emerging and expanding global youth-driven revolution.

I am a young student, researcher, and writer of meagre means, but I have been writing about issues of power and resistance for several years, and I would like to be able to travel to Europe in order to see the effects of the crisis and reactions of the people in the form of protest and creative resistance, to interview those participating in and documenting resistance movements, such as the 'We Don't Pay' movement out of Greece, the Indignados in Spain, etc., and to document the true nature of this global crisis, which is most acutely being felt in Europe at the moment.

I have already written a great deal of the book, focused almost exclusively on Europe at the moment, but I need funds to continue putting my time and effort into completing the book, as well as to travel to Europe to see 'the revolution' up close and personal. It is one thing to study a situation from afar, and entirely another to see it up close and in person.

My only income derives from donations from readers and supporters around the world, but that has largely dried up of late, and I need to expand my reach. I am hoping to raise $9,000 so that I can continue putting the necessary time and resources into finishing this book by the New Year, and to travel to Europe for at least one month in a 'revolutionary tour' of crisis and resistance, and to document the trip in both articles for public consumption and to add to the final book. Most of the money would have to go to the trip to Europe to cover flight, train/travel, lodging, food and other necessities (at least $6,000); the rest would cover my living expenses while I research and finish writing the book, essentially, food and rent.

I have been writing this particular volume of the book for less than two months, and already have completed more than 300 pages (single-spaced) of unedited research. I have made samples of both my research and analysis available to the public on my websites, so that people may read and see for themselves the type of material I produce, and decide if they think it is worth supporting. I will continue to do this for supporters, who would receive samples of my work and research.

I have been living very modestly for some time, and live well below the poverty line, but writing is my passion and my purpose in life. While constantly being broke takes a toll, my research and writing give me sustenance and a determination like nothing else in my life. Supporting a writer is always risky, but I hope you think it might just be worth it. The world around us is changing so rapidly, prices go up, and wages go down, debts get higher and job searches harder; while poverty spreads, the elites take more for themselves, in profits and power. But something is changing: the people, and most especially the youth of the world are waking up, rising up, from Occupy to Athens, from Santiago to Cairo, taking to the streets, raising questions, demanding change, and planting the seeds of creating an altogether new society which is not designed to benefit the few at the expense of the many.

I want to be a part of this process, I want to document, analyze and help it forward, to inform action and inspire thought and discussion, to give strength to those who struggle, strength through the 'mighty pen' instead of the seraded sword. I want to Write the Revolution, as best as I can.

I need your support to make this a reality.

So in the name of solidarity, thank you to all who have and continue to support this project!

Sincerely,

Andrew Gavin Marshall
