GOAL $6000 Stretch goal $12000
Story/Synopsis
Young
Gifted and Black is a comedy that focuses on the life of six friends living and
working in Los Angeles. In the Pilot, we’re introduced to Phil Barber. Phil is a starving Artist who has just recently moved
to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional musician. He
meets up with a group of his friends; Tonya Barber – Phil’s cousin and stylist to the stars, Derrick Black – a former athlete and Phil’s former college roommate turned Hollywood
producer, Rocky Savage - the pretty boy actor
with dumb luck, and Cassidy James – Former
classmate and wise cracking Los Angelino. We quickly see that each character
brings their own unique flavor to the group and that together, they form some
strange Hollywood family. Later, the group is introduced to Nicole Hamilton, a rich friend of Cassidy’s who
moves to Los Angeles with hidden intentions. Those will be revealed in the
second episode as Cassidy tries to get into her good graces and the group
struggles to stretch and accommodate new and old faces.
Think
of this as the "Black Friends." When the pursuit of fame and the
swirling storm of drama that comes with it gets real, all these friends have is
each other. But their personal lives may prove to be more outlandish than any
Hollywood personas they’re chasing.

About the creator
My
name is Jarvis Fuller and I'm the show creator/writer. I'm originally from
Denver Colorado and have been a resident of LA for the past five years. I've
worked on a number of projects (Music Videos, award shows, TV spots and films)
and with networks including but not limited to Bravo and BET to name a
couple. I've been passionate about film and television for as long as I can
remember. And I'm excited to share some great stories with YOU. Are they art
imitating life, or life imitating art? I guess you'll have to watch.
What are we asking for?
At
this point with the connections we have, not only have we cast the show. But
we've been able to secure producers Paul
Watson (credits listed below) and Boulder
Entertainment (an independent production company/LLC). With their help,
we'll be able to stretch a tight budget a long way. We are asking for $6500 to
go straight to production. Remember that the average half hour comedic sitcom
costs $2 million. The stretch goal of $12000 will not only help us secure the
crew and feed everyone, but it will also help ease up on the pressure so that
we can possibly fit in an extra shoot day and not feel rushed.
It
will cover:
- Crew
- Food
- Location
- Equipment
rental
- Post
Production
Appeal? What you get
Unfortunately,
we just lost one of our greatest comedic actors, Robin Williams. It's on the
heels of this loss that we realize how comedy truly touches our lives and lives
around the world. Laughter is truly healing and can transcend barriers. How
many times have you been able to connect with a stranger over a shared memory
of a childhood show or the humor behind a funny situation? Who doesn't like to
laugh? The nicest thing any one person can wear, is their smile.

from busting your gut, check out the perks!!!
Risks & Challenges
There
are always risks with any endeavor, especially one like this. But the closer we
get to our goal, the more we are able to minimize any risk in our control. We
are extremely confident in our cast and the production team. Teamwork makes the
dream work and baby, We got a serious team!
Other Ways You Can Help
Not
everyone will be able to contribute financially. That doesn't mean you can't
still help us reach our goal. Indiegogo.com is a fantastic site and they've
thought of everything. They have what are called "Share Tools" that
you can use in order to help spread the word on your social media with all of
your friends. If you are passionate about the project or comedy in general, or
if you know one of the cast, crew or even myself, Share this campaign! Get the
word out and help us get this made! Oh and...somebody call Oprah! Call Oprah!

Rebecca Silver as Tonya - Tonya is a professional stylist to the stars. But she's also what you might call a typical blonde. Her innocent lack of knowledge often provides a comical freshness to the group.
![]()
Robert Dowdy as Derrick - An up and coming producer. He's a ladys' man, has a few projects under his belt and likes to think he's the leader of the group. Often he's waiting for the right time to throw his accomplishments into conversation.

Brandi Huzzi as Cassidy - Cassidy is a no nonsense resident of Los Angeles. She's usually arguing with one of the guys. Her straight forward approach often comes off as dry humor.

Jarvis Fuller as Phil - Phil is a starving artist who's just recently moved to LA in pursuit of a music career. He's a little on the romantic side but is often the comedic relief of the group.

Aba Arthur as Nicole Hamilton - Nicole is an uppity socialite who is forced to move to Los Angeles for reasons unknown to the group. She's a former classmate of Cassidy and wouldn't be caught dead in last season's Prada.

Tom Williamson as Rocky - Rocky is pretty but dumb. He's also incredibly lucky. He's one of those who always seems to have everything go his way. And because of it, the ladies and everyone else seem to love him.
