Diversity in Antwerp City is a free festival organized by schoolgoing youths. We think color, religious conviction or cultural background do not matter and that we stand stronger together. Antwerp city is becoming less tolerant towards diversity. We see more and more racism and discrimination and this goes hand in hand with more repressive measures. So as a group of young people from diverse backgrounds we came together to find a way to stop this development. That is why we are organizing a festival against racism and discrimination. Last year we started with 0 euro because we thought only our friends and family would come. But because the event went viral on Facebook, we had to empty our pockets (a big stage, artist fees, food trucks and drink stands, technicians, logistic support...) and our finances ended in red figures. To prevent this from happening this year and to accommodate the more than 1.000 people that already plead to attend on Facebook, we will need all the help we can get. And following the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels, we think more than ever it is important to bring people together to celebrate diversity. Every euro we raise can help us to make sure we can spread the message of tolerance and respect in these sad times.
