My name is Chris Matrone, I'm an award winning filmmaker and the Writer & Director of 5 Doors. The film 5 Doors touches on subject matters that are extremely relevant to the times of today, yesterday, and tomorrow. The film discusses depression, suicide, forgotten ambitions, and the existential crisis we all face as go through our lives trying to make a name for ourselves and leave our mark in history.
What We Need & What You Get
Location fees, sets, & permits: Renting locations, building sets, and get permission to shoot in certain locations (permits). I'm not against breaking and entering, but not everyone is as cool as me.
Insurance: In case one of our actors or crew gets lost on this spiritual journey and we need to hire a rescue party.
Wardrobe: The clothes just don't make the man/woman/child/alien, it makes the movie!
Makeup and Special effects makeup: The price of makeup adds up, and our makeup artists got to eat too.
Post Production (sound mix, score, editing, etc.): Just because the curtain has closed, doesn't mean the show is over. The film's adventure never stops, as such the expenses for the film never ends as well.
Storage Drives: The raw footage has to sleep somewhere before it's turned into magic!
Catering: The Cast and Crew would like to eat. While some of us can just rough it out days on end without food or water, some have enjoyed the finer things in life like having a full stomach after a hards day work.
Film Festival Submissions: The expenses for a film never stop, even after filing and editing. To make sure this film's story is properly told, it's going to have to hit the festival circuit hard, and as any filmmaker can tell you, those festival submissions all start to add up.
The Impact
This film was all about how life can affect us, and sometimes it feels like there is nowhere to go, so we run away. I was inspired to tell a story that I thought could speak to people dealing with the feelings of stress, depression, and suicide, especially with today's problems in society. We often ignore these feelings or suppress them. Other times we see the warning signs, but we ignore the unfortunate truth, for a comforting lie. Regardless of our best efforts, everyone sometimes feels like we are ice skating uphill to an uncacheable goal. Other times we achieve our goals, yet we feel overwhelmed like we are flying too close to the sun like Icarus and find ourselves lost in the flames of our ambition.
5 Doors starts out as a seemingly mundane and simple story that turns into a spiritual quest of redemption, self-realization, and the acceptance of one’s mortality. The biggest theme in this film is that second chances are possible, even if the second chances come at the very end of our journey. The films asks the question “Are you happy?” and if not, “What is happiness to you?”. The message in this film is that It’s okay not to be okay, and you are never alone. Some people never learn that, and that is something that deserves to be changed.
Risks & Challenges
Let me start off by saying that even if this campaign doesn't raise a penny, this film will happen. Regardless of this film being a passion project of mine, I firmly believe that the message behind this film is something everyone should hear. Suicide, depression, apathy towards life, these are feelings that everyone has felt. I know I've felt it. I wrote this film as an outlet for my own depression and thoughts of suicide. I was once told to take my pain and make it art, so that's what I did.
The beauty about Indiegogo is that it's flexible and every dollar we earn we can put it towards the film. Anything from a dollar helps this production be even better, and everyone behind it is more than grateful to anyone who donates, invests, supports, or just helps spread the word.

History
In the past, I had worked as an A.D. and co-writer on many of the awards winning sets with the talented production company Transcending Pictures. In my time there we made three feature films and a short film. All of our films were award winning, or nominated, and had distribution offers throughout the years. Along side working with Transcending Pictures in the film industry, I had also been co-owner/Operations Director of The Hudson Valley International Film Festival and had helped lead it through 2 successful years in the beautiful city of Monroe, NY. Below is sizzle reel of my experiences and the work that I had done over the years.
