Be a Part of Hockey History
If you’re interested in hockey or have a family member or friend who’s passionate about our game, you’ll want to know about our funding campaign around the 50th Anniversary of the ‘72 Summit Series and why it’s so unique. The '72 Series and the Paul Henderson Goal, have been named one of the top 10 moments in Canadian history by several media outlets.
We want you to be a part of this journey. I’ll share more about that in a minute. This campaign includes two Books. The first is a 50th Anniversary update of “The Goal That United Canada” which included 72 unique Canadian stories about where people were when Paul Henderson scored his memorable goal.
This book was launched at the Hockey Hall of Fame on the 40th Anniversary of that memorable goal. We had knowledgeable speakers including Bob Cole, Brian McFarlane and Game 2 referee, Steve Dowling.

The second Book, currently in progress, will also have 72 stories and gives more of a balanced Canadian and Russian perspective with reflections over the 50 year period. If you’re interested in players like Alex Ovechkin, Nikita Kucherov or Andrei Svechnikov, I think you'll get a better understanding of Russian Hockey culture and why the ‘72 Series was so historically important. There will be insights from players like Tretiak, Yakushev and Mikhailov.
We’ve collected so much interesting information about the Series, we can't include everything in the books. We want to share some of those behind-the-scenes stories and tidbits regarding the making of both books as well as lessons learned. You’ll hear stories told from the Hockey Hall of Fame event, including one by Denis Brodeur, series photographer and father of Martin Brodeur and a great story about Walter Gretzky.
Additionally, there’s also a discussion section, if you’d like to share your memories.
Whether you’re a hockey fan, who wants to add to your collection or you’d like to share these books as gifts, you will gain greater insights to the impact the Series had on our game. Our intent is to inform, entertain and allow for discussion, especially with younger generations, around a Series that will never be forgotten.
We’re very appreciative to all the individuals and sponsors who want to be a part of this funding campaign. We have created perks that allow you to be a part of one or both books. We hope you’ll join us in sharing history!

The Impact
The 50th Anniversary is historically significant and will most likely be the last comprehensive account about this iconic series. Since “The Goal That United Canada" was first published in 2012, several players from the Series and story contributors have passed on.
Our hope is that these stories and memories will be enjoyed by future generations.
Thank you for being a part of this fun and unique campaign.
