Founded in 2007, The Bushwick Film Festival discovers both domestic and international indie films and new media projects and shares them with a diverse audience of film lovers and industry professionals. We celebrate talented and passionate filmmakers who manage to overcome all obstacles and shoot their films independent of a studio. Most importantly, we act as a bridge between film and community by developing film education programs and creating spaces for the community to share their stories.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Youth Film Program

The BFF Youth Film Program advocates the importance of film in fostering well-rounded youth communities. In this six-week curriculum, students learn the collaborative process of making a short film. Their work is showcased at the Bushwick Film Festival in October.

The BFF Indie Film School is a program for members of the community who are interested in telling their stories through the medium of film. We teach students the various stage of film production that includes script writing, filming, editing, cinematography and color correction.

Must be 18+ to participate in this program.

The BFF Media Training for Local Businesses and Residents Program is designed to educate and familiarize small business owners and local residents in the professional use of social media. This program covers marketing and the benefits of sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, Google+, and LinkedIn.

Awards & Prize:

Each year, we invite industry professionals to join our Selection Committee and Jury to screen and evaluate all film submissions.

The Bushwick Film Festival presents four award categories: Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short Film and Best New Media Project. All submitted films and new media projects are eligible for competition.

Winning films and projects will receive consulting services on development, distribution and audience outreach for their next projects

NEW MEDIA

New Media is dedicated to supporting and providing a platform for story-tellers. Our vision is to encourage story-telling both for creators and their audience by forging connections between cultural production and technology.

Last year's program includes  panels, interactive & immersive projects, web series, and select documentary and fiction narratives that use technology to enable user generated content and create participatory experiences. The undercurrent of these projects is their strong focus on a social, political or environmental issue. Their expansion onto various platforms is a way to engage the audience on a deeper level

The Festival has become become known as the place for independent filmmakers to share their work in the collaborative, creative neighborhood of Bushwick.....

We value the visions and voices of our local artists, but the input of all residents lay an integral role in our mission.

Embracing the spirit of Bushwick, showcasing its qualities, and revamping a sense of community pride is what we strive to do.

WHAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED:

• Our past festival winners of the Best Film Category were given professional guidance on the development of their next projects.

• In 2009, we donated a percentage of our ticket sales to Dr. Sharad Kumar. He has performed over 65,000 operations in India for children suffering from various deformities, such as cleft lip and cleft palates. At 72 years old, he's still working to ensure a future for these children.

• In 2010, we partnered with New Children/ New York, a Bushwick organization that was created to reveal the stories of Latin-American immigrants in New York City from the perspective of their children. We dedicated a day of the festival to the children and their stories.

• In 2012, we donated a percentage of our ticket sales to ONE Liberia.

• In 2013, we donated a percentage of our ticket sales to Rainbow Town.

WHAT WILL THE FUNDS BE USED FOR?

We want to put on the best Film Festival possible not only for our filmmakers, but also  our audience members. Planning a well thought out festival has not been easy or cheap, and many of the funds have come out of our own pocket. With your help, the money we raise on Indiegogo will go towards:

  • Producing The 7th Annual Festival
  • Scholarship Awards
  • Education Programs
  • Venue Rental
  • Equipment Rental
  • Transportation
  • Website Maintenance
  • Artists Fees
  • Staff

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

We only have 30 days to raise the full amount, but because our campaign has flexible funding, we will receive what we have raised at the end of the 30 days.

Also keep in mind that we CAN surpass the amount that we're trying to raise! So if you see we've reached our goal, this does not mean you can no longer donate. Believe me, the more the merrier!

WHO CAN DONATE?

Anyone! Family, friends, strangers, long lost cousins. Anyone who believes in this project can offer a donation. We promise it will be put to good use.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP:

  • Make a Donation - No matter how big or small, all donations are appreciated. And with each donation comes an awesome token of our appreciation.
  • Follow Us! - Keep up with festival updates via Twitter or Facebook
  • Help Spread the Word! - Share our campaign!

Thank you for your support! We really can't thank you enough. With sites like this and people like you, it helps change the way we make and see great films. Thank you for being apart of something very special. You are appreciated.
