The Challenge: Shoot A 12 Minute Short Film in One Continuous Shot
A couple wakes up on a typical weekday morning. On the surface, their relationship is flawless. As their morning routine unfolds however, we start seeing through the cracks. Petty domestic bickering leads to major relationship upheaval as the couple brings the argument from the bedroom to the bathroom, to the kitchen, and to the car. By the time they get to work, some words have been said that will change their relationship forever...or so she thinks.
Hello! We are two Los Angeles based filmmakers who want to produce and direct a short film to submit to film festivals this fall. The competition is fierce for film festival submissions, but we think our short film story and shooting style has what it takes to be a contender.
We are shooting this short film in one continuous shot. No editing. It's going to be quite a challenge getting it right. There is almost no room for error. That means our crew and our actors have to be on point and ready to meet the challenge.
This will be a Screen Actor's Guild Ultra Low Budget short film. That way we open our film up to the possibilities of being able to use recognizable faces. These are the faces you see all of the the time in films and television. Since this is a low budget film, we are only required by the union to pay reduced fees to the actors in accordance with the union guidelines.
What does having known actors mean for us?
It means we don't have to fork out thousands or even millions of dollars which we don't have, to get a "name" attached to our project. A film with recognizable faces stands a much better chance of getting into a festival and the chance that more people will take the time to actually see our film.

Risks & Challenges
There are a few risks and challenges we will have to overcome.
The biggest hurdle is finding the right actors who can pull off the continuous dialogue requirements and do it all in one take which will last for approximately 12 minutes. That also includes our camera operator and sound guy. During filming, the actors and crew CANNOT mess up. One mistake and we will have to start over. So in order to minimize the risk, we will have to have several rehearsals with both cast and crew to get it right.
Here is what we have already:
-
Two extremely qualified camera and sound operators who are up for the challenge.
-
The set and the car needed for the shoot. Both were donated to use in the film.
The final challenge is getting the film into film festivals. Each festival has fees that range from $50-$100 dollars per entry. The fees do not guarantee that our film will get in and they are also non-refundable. We think our film and the story are great and have a good chance of getting accepted. But it's going to be hope, luck and perseverance that gets us to the finish line.
