A new queer Christmas horror feature film from Alice Maio Mackay.
Synopsis
When true crime podcaster and sleuth Lola visits her hometown at Christmas for the first time since running away and transitioning, the vengeful ghost of a historical murderer and urban legend, seemingly arises to kill again. Lola must solve the case before her community is slaughtered. She's up against not only a psychotic killer, but a town haunted by secrets.
OUR PURPOSE
Horror is at its most powerful when it is important, and the most important horror is that which reflects the real-life struggles of humanity through the power of allegory. SO VAM took the vampire out of its origins in the demonization of sexualities and minorities, and made it a genre of their empowerment. BAD GIRL BOOGEY took the slasher out of the hands of the 80s Reaganite mentality of punishment and violence, and made it a powerful allegory for the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community. T Blockers, Satranic Panic & our new film continue this mission.

Our films have been praised for their powerful and fast-paced storytelling and striking visuals. and This film will be even better, bolder & bigger than our last works. Director Alice Maio Mackay continues to shine and hone her craft, each project superior to the last. She and her co-writers have penned a gut-wrenching story set in a mad and twisted world that returning cinematographer Aaron Schuppan will paint in light and color. We tell stories in ways they haven’t been told before. There will be things in the movie that you have seen: urban legends, Christmas hauntings, and gruesome deaths but you’ve never seen them like this.

WHO WE ARE
Alice Maio Mackay – Director, Co-Writer & Producer
Alice Maio Mackay is an 18-year-old transgender award-winning filmmaker. Her debut feature film SO VAM, featuring stars BenDeLaCreme and Etcetera Etcetera from Drag Race, premiered at Salem Horror Fest 2021, winning awards, and critical praise. The film is a SHUDDER exclusive and was released in August 2022. In 2022, she directed and co-wrote her second queer horror feature film, BAD GIRL BOOGEY, featuring a cameo from horror icon Bill Mosley. It had its US premiere at Popcorn Frights Film Festival and its Australian premiere at Monster Fest. She directed her third queer horror feature T BLOCKERS which features performances from Etcetera Etcetera, Cassie Workman, and Joni Ayton-Kent. It recently premiered at Salem Horror Fest 2023.
Her fourth feature SATRANIC PANIC led by Zarif and Cassie Hamilton (co-writer) is also in post-production. Alice was also a guest writer for season 3 of the American radio series IT LISTENS FROM THE RADIO. Her Stephen King adaptation A TALE OF THE LAUNDRY GAME, original short TOOTH 4 TOOTH, and others have been extraordinarily popular and successful in festivals, TOOTH 4 TOOTH receiving a distribution deal with Mattioli Productions. She has a unique, unforgettable style and is an exciting new voice.
Cinematographer - Aaron Schuppan
The first stories Aaron remembers hearing were nursery rhymes sung to him in German by his Oma. At the age of 8 he saw a poster for Back to the Future 2 and decided then and there that movies were what he wanted to do with his life. This was cemented by a youth growing up all throughout rural Australia where his one consistent friend was the video store. He is an AFTRS graduate writer/director and a multi-award-winning cinematographer. As well as his work with WeMat he has worked extensively in independent cinema as well as the commercial space for major brands and written/directed countless music videos for Australian and international acts. He is currently focusing on long-form narrative. His feature HEAVY RED is currently in development with We Made A Thing Studios, and he was the cinematographer on SO VAM, BAD GIRL BOOGEY, T BLOCKERS & SATRANIC PANIC.
Co-writer - Ben Pahl Robinson
Ben is a skilled screenwriter and filmmaker with over 17 years of experience and dedication to the craft. He has an overactive imagination, a morbid sensibility, and has worn out many pairs of boots on his travels, He has worked with Alice Maio Mackay on 9 produced films including shorts TOOTH 4 TOOTH, THE SERPENT'S NEST, HOWL OF THE WEREWOLF, and feature films SO VAM, BAD GIRL BOOGEY, T BLOCKERS & SATRANIC PANIC.
