Short Summary
My name is Jayda Jeske and I have been dancing since i was 3 years old. It's a goal of mine to become a professional dancer in a company such as Alvin Ailey. I currently dance 6 days a week, (7 sometimes during performances) at Minnesota Dance Theatre doing mostly classical ballet and graham-based modern.
I have wanted to train with Alvin Ailey ever since I took their Horton master class last year. I am lucky enough to have received a full scholarship to the professional program based on my audition and also they are contributing $1,000 to my housing which is incredible! I'm so thankful for this opportunity and feel that it would be a waste to not accept this offer. The program is 6 weeks so I would be there for approximately 42 days.
Unfortunately, my mom, being a single mom caring for me and my younger brother, cannot afford the rest of the housing and a few other necessary expenses.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated, even spreading the word to others!
What We Need & What You Get
I am hoping to raise at least $1,600 (9% will be going to indie gogo if I do not meet my goal)
This money would be going towards:
The rest of my housing, meals, airfare, and other necessary items that are dance related (pointe shoes, leotards, etc.)
If I do not reach my goal, I will use this money to go to a summer intensive that is closer to home and less costly. However, I REALLY am hoping to go to Alvin Ailey, especially since I received a full scholarship to be able to attend.
If I exceed my goal, I will donate the extra money to the Alvin Ailey school.
The Impact
If I can go to this intensive, I have a feeling this would impact my whole future as a dancer. 6 weeks studying with THE Alvin Ailey school?? It would be impossible not to improve! I would be forever grateful to attend this summer program.
I have been to other summer intensives too, such as Alonzo King LINES in San Francisco, (I've been for 2 summers and enjoyed every second of it!), and these intensives really helped me discover my passion for improvising and doing more contemporary ballet versus the more classical style that I've been doing my whole life. Alvin Ailey would be an ideal place to go since they too are more focused on the contemporary ballet aspect.
