Applause for a Cause is a student-run philanthropic production company. Each year, we write, produce, direct, and edit a feature-length film. In May, we hold a red-carpet premiere, and all the proceeds are donated to a non-profit.
This year's production, The Helsings, is about an emotionally distant mother trying to overcome the effects of past abuse to protect her daughter. Consequently, our beneficiary is Apna Ghar, an organization that provides resources to victims of domestic violence.
Summary
Applause for a Cause is a student philanthropic production organization that writes, produces, directs, edits, and premieres a feature-length film each year. The proceeds from our films' screenings are then donated to that year’s selected Chicago-based charity. It is our mission to use our love of filmmaking to make a difference in our local community. Past films have been huge successes, including last year's production, "Dead Tongues", which is now participating in film festivals around the country, and recently won "Best Feature" in Portland, Oregon.
This year, we have chosen to produce "The Helsings" written by Taylor Beck. The proceeds from the red carpet premiere of the film will be donated to Apna Ghar, a social services nonprofit that provides services and advocates across immigrant communities to end gender violence.
In the meantime, to produce this movie, we need all the help we can get! Simple tasks such as acquiring costumes, paying actors a fair wage, and upgrading our old and broken equipment are difficult to achieve without the necessary resources. With your help, Applause for a Cause can make a great film for a great cause!
What We Need & What You Get
- Our total budget is about $6,000, and we are hoping to raise a third of that ($2,000) via crowdfunding on Indiegogo.
- Our perks include handwritten thank-you notes, digital copies of the film, physical copies of the film, autographed movie posters, executive producer credit, and personalized video messages.
- Every little bit counts! If we don't reach our goal, we will still make the movie, but we may have to reevaluate our budget or continue fundraising through the spring.
The Impact
Our group benefits a great cause, while helping members gain hands-on filmmaking experience.
