Short Summary of My Project
- My name is Brian Cattelle. I was introduced to photography
in High School where I took all the classes that were offered and spent
much of my free time in the darkroom exploring the creative and artistic
potential of photography. Ever since, I have dreamed of undertaking a
large scale photography project. My life has taken some interesting twists
and turns and now, at the age of 32, it’s time to bring my dream to
fruition.
- BARE USA is a nationwide project that contrasts natural
beauty with man made decay. This
contrast is achieved by photographing nude models in abandoned places. My
goal is to photograph a nude model in at least one location in each of the
50 United States and publish both a digital and hard cover book of the
entire collection. I have always been intrigued by buildings and places
that have been cast aside. I see
this project as a chance to creatively capture the beauty of the female
form in those locations creating an oasis of beauty amongst the chaos and
destruction.
- With your help I will be able to bring this idea to
life. I have already started and
the photographs I have taken so far have been very well received. I cannot,
however, take it all the way without your support. The opportunity to continue this project
is at my fingertips. I just need your help to grab it. I will be able to
travel to all 50 states, pay my models fairly, publish the final book and produce
fine art prints. You can be an integral part of making that which was once
lost, beautiful again, for a moment to be frozen in time.
What I Need & What You Get
- I am looking to raise $40,000.00. The money will go
towards paying the models and providing for my essentials while on the
road, like gas, food and shelter. I
plan on doing a lot of camping and couch surfing to keep the cost down. There may be an unfortunate surprise or
two like a fee to access a desired location or maybe even a fine if I fail
to get appropriate permission. And then there are other incidentals like
vehicle repair and camera equipment.
- In return I have some awesome perks for you. I have already
completed a lot of work in south Florida so you don’t have to wait. Your
choices range from large fine art photo prints to small post cards. If, however, you want to wait, you can get
a print or post card from a state of your choice. As another option you can reserve a copy
of the book and get it before anyone else, in whichever format you prefer.
- If I don’t reach my target of $40,000.00 I’m still
going. I’ll just have to go leaner and meaner and it might take longer but
your generous contribution will go into the project no matter what. I am
passionate about this and I will do whatever it takes to bring about the
full realization of this project. I
head out July 1st rain or shine!
The Impact it Will Have
- We, you and I, will be bringing something beautiful to
this world. We will take abandoned
places that have been laid to rest and give them purpose again, even if
only for a fleeting moment, frozen in time as an artistic photo. We will be encouraging creative freedom,
expression and adventure, hoping to influence others to do the same. The more beauty we bring to the world
the more beautiful the world we live in will be!
- Over the past year I have proved the legitimacy of this
project by producing photographs from several locations in south
Florida. I found the models, built
trust with them, explored abandoned places with tact and created some
awesome images that will be a part of a cohesive and complete project.
- My legitimacy as an artistic photographer has been
demonstrated by my winning a significant “grand prize’ in the Marlboro “Capture
the Unknown” contest, and receiving the “Juror Merit Award” in street
photography for the International Fine Art Photography contest.
- I believe that anyone who contributes to my effort is a
part of my project and as such should be able to discuss any aspect of it
