The heads of the Becoming A Hero team are husband and wife team, Andrew Smith and Denise Coates. Both have been involved in various aspects of production over their indie film and stage careers.

Becoming A Hero is not just from the heart, it's all heart. So powerful and simple. It received fantastic coverage from all the major agencies and over the last decade, it has had numerous academy award winning actors and actresses attached. But because it isn't a comic book movie, the lead is a woman and it is headed by a female writer/director, the establishment in Hollywood has turned its back.

When we fund B.A.H., we will be doing things never done before...

We will be hiring all women to head up and second all departments, as well as filling in as many smaller crew roles with women as we can.

We are donating 5% of what we raise on IndieGoGo, as well as from the profit the film makes, to the Make A Wish Foundation.

We will also be implementing a unique voting system where YOU will be an integral part of the filmmaking process. YOU will make key production decisions all throughout the shoot.

We have been working and slaving to save enough money to make B.A.H. We have saved a small chunk over the years and we can complete production on the movie ourselves. The problem is, it will take us several years of working around the clock to do it. 

And we are willing to do that if we have to. NOTHING will stop us.

But with backing from visionaries like you, we will be able to exponentially speed up the process.

We are seeking to raise $100k, with a clear intention to raise even more as the campaign goes forward.

Here's what we will use the money for:

• Hire Oscar Winning and Nominated Actors and Actresses - Many talented stars are interested in the amazing roles. We have arranged for them to work very short weeks, while on location in Carmel, for a fraction of their normal fees. Having them in the film makes marketing the finished movie exponentially easier. We would use approximately $30k to sign this talent.
• Hire Industry Leading Stop Motion Artisans - There are thousands of work-hours that go into the stop-motion part of the film. We will hire a small team of specialists to work along side us and change the production time from 13 months to 6 months or less. We can stretch $25k to do so.
• Raise Production Value - We'll use approximately $45k to rent a nicer camera and lighting package, additional crew members, secure more amazing locations and resources. Every extra day we create, we will be able to capture more magic.

• You Will Vote To Decide How To Make This Movie (how many times is up to you) on dozens and dozens of key creative decisions about most aspects of the film. Both live-action and stop-motion.
• You Can Actually Come And Work On Set on the live-action or stop-motion part of the film. You will be a fully credited member of the crew.

With the arrival of the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements in Tinseltown, the Hollywood Studio system is being revealed as the male-dominated, cronies-cover-up industry we always suspected it to be.

After we were told by a very large production company that they would produce the film if we changed the lead to a man and let them choose the director of their choice (a man), we decided enough was enough. We're making this ourselves.

We are standing up. In the best way we know how. We are hiring all female department heads and seconds. The other positions on the crew will be filled by women, or by those of you who have decided to come and be a part of the production. No more discrimination against women in the industry. Not on our watch.

We are also shining a giant spot light on the wonderful work of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. They have helped kids with serious medical conditions have some true fun in our lives. And just like Nicolas has a wish fulfilled, we want to make sure that happens for any child in need. That's why we are donating 5% of what we raise here, plus at least 5% of any profit the film makes. B.A.H. is going to be a gift that just keeps on giving.

So many of us on the B.A.H. Team suffer from anxiety. It has many forms, but one thing that is true for all of them is the stereotypes associated with it. Society judges people with anxiety or other mental health issues. Often quite severely. Bullying, teasing and isolation are very real issues for people with anxiety. But if you think about it logically, someone with anxiety is walking around, conducting life and business, all the while, terrified. What amount of courage must they possess to do all of those things, scared? Anxiety in those around us needs to be healed. Not feared. We will change these stigmas around anxiety in the world.

This isn't our first trip around the block. We know there are issues that will rise up and try to hold us back from making B.A.H. We have been fighting hard for almost 10 years. There is nothing that could happen  that would stop this movie from getting made. In fact, we have saved a fair size nest egg that we will make the film with if we don't reach our goals. There is no power in the Universe that will prevent us from making this film. Nothing.
