Overview
Cory & Aaron here. We hang out in trailer parks from time to time. We also do other things. We made our first feature, Black Cop! Well, almost. Filming happened last fall in brisk November (Nova Scotia) and we’ve just recently completed the editing process. There's still a lot left to do in post production before this thing is ready, and due to a hole in our financing, we need your help! We're looking to raise $30,000 in order to complete our film in time for festival season.

We’re very excited about our micro budget movie and the opportunity to show it to you all.  The funds raised from this campaign will help cover some remaining costs; a portion of sound editing (dialogue, sound effects, foley & mix), colour correction, art work, marketing and legal fees (fun!).

All of these pieces are very important and will make our film that much better.  We're also really psyched about the music.  We have already lined up some AMAZING tunes for the movie, and we’ve got our eyes (and ears) on some additional tracks as well as original music to take us to the next level.

Cory's Note about the piece.:

BLACK COP stems from a simple question; what if a black cop, frustrated about the current stigma surrounding law enforcement, is driven to take action by doing what he believes is the direct repose to the social media judge and jury - giving them something else to "weigh in on"?  The problem is this man lives on the edge of the coin, and each side has troubling consequences.

I think of BLACK COP as an opera of sorts ‐‐ a story where one character takes us on a roller coaster of grandiose melodrama. It’s a mix of real footage, narrative storytelling, with a touch of live theatre setting added in.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't profoundly affected by the current situation and relationship between my community and law enforcement. And sometimes it can be so scary it's funny. Tackling a story rooted in social issue can be daunting, but it can also be fun. It can be humorous, ironic, and entertaining‐ even if it may be  uncomfortable at times. And course, there has to be a few biting questions in there too. And like any satire, it should pull no punches. But that’s what I do. I try to make work that asks hard questions, and sits in the grey. That’s what made me an artist in the first place. To ask, to question, and maybe even help something somewhere.

WHAT'S OUR MOVIE ABOUT?

It’s not easy being a black cop. Your community doesn’t trust you, your colleagues are wary of you, and everyone assumes you hate NWA. And when the world is on edge waiting for a grand jury verdict on a high profile police case involving unarmed youth, you can bet all eyes are on you. For one black cop already struggling between duty and moral obligation, it only gets worse when he is profiled by his colleagues off-duty, nearly getting himself killed in the process – pushing him over the edge. Armed with the power of his badge, an antagonizing radio show for company, and some good old fashioned rage - the stage is set for a whirlwind day filled with vendetta and just desserts – as black cop targets the very community that justifies his colleagues –on a collision course with his own identity. Racial tension, law enforcement, and social media are the focus in this hyper active satire.

WHAT WE NEED (AND WHAT YOU GET)

Funds raised will be used to cover the above noted post production costs (and then some).  We are asking A LOT, and it doesn’t escape us for a moment.  We’re dearly grateful for any contribution or help you can provide.

That being said, we have some DOPE perks!  Writer / Director Cory Bowles is a talented fellow behind the camera, but you may know him as an actor as well.  Some of our perks include signed photos, posters, replica items, a collection of Cory’s creative works, on screen thank you credits, pre-screenings, premiere parties, some special suprises…and MAYBE Cory will make you dinner…maybe.

Every penny counts and will help to make our movie that much better.  We think our story is socially relevant and will give people an alternate (satirical) perspective.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP!

THANK YOU for checking out our campaign and getting this far.  We completely understand if you can’t contribute financially…but you can help so much in other ways!  Share the link on social media.  Twitter!  Facebook!  Tell your friends, tell your enemies.  Infomercial?  All good.

WHO THE HELL ARE WE?!

AARON HORTON (Producer)

Aaron Horton can say he’s held nearly every position in the production office, working his way up from volunteering on music videos to managing the production of one of the world’s most popular series. Based in Halifax with roots in Toronto, Aaron has a long and impressive list of film and TV credits.

Aaron started volunteering in his spare time at the Canadian Film Centre. In a short time, he gained a reputation as being one of the hardest working employees in the Toronto television and film industry. He earned his way up the chain, from being a Production Assistant on movies such as Dawn of the Dead and Fever Pitch; to Production Secretary on Hairspray; Travel Coordinator on AmeliaRED and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World; and Assistant Production Coordinator on Rookie BlueResident Evil: Retribution and Hannibal

Over a nine year span, he became a sought-after production staffer. In 2011, he moved back home to Halifax with his family and continued to make his mark here, working hard to help bring small, independent films to an international audience such as Bunker 6 and the 2015 Atlantic Film Festival darling Your Money or Your Wife. His career highlight was helping bring the Trailer Park Boys series back to its legion of fans and is proud to be the Line Producer & Production Manager of the Netflix juggernaut, seen in 231 countries.
