1800s life in Tipperary, Ireland was tough. For the migrant Donnellys homesteading on Roman Line in rural Biddulph, Ontario proved even more difficult. Based on true events, this movie will cut through the legend of the Donnellys like never before by giving an unbiased, no holds-barred telling of the true history on the big screen. The movie is being shot by an award winning team of indie filmmakers, on location with volunteers from Southwestern Ontario where events actually occurred.
Help Us Make History
For generations, we have wanted a movie telling the true history of the Donnellys and now, with the help of an army of volunteers and crowdsource fundraising, we are about to see it on the big screen.
We have all read the books. We have imagined the worn wood of Johannah's shillelagh. We have felt the tension as the Vigilance Committee and the Donnelly clan faced off. We could practically taste the apple as we read about Johnny O'Connor the night before the massacre. But what drove these seemingly normal town folk to commit the atrocity? For the first time on the big screen, the story will be told untarnished and unbiased, in all its complexity. Leaving the viewers as the jury to render their own verdict, and to find justice once and for all.
A screenplay years in the making, a production months in the planning, and our team of award winning filmmakers on set for 10 days. Telling a massive story on a micro budget, our volunteers will give blood, sweat and tears to bring the history to life. We have completed 3 out of 10 days of filming, and we're hard at work preparing for the next phase of production. We need your help to make the movie and preserve this piece of Canadiana for future generations!
Choose a Perk or make a donation and the funds will go directly to making the film! The funds raised will cover costs like:
- Production insurance
- Travel costs for our volunteers
- Meals and refreshments
- Fuel
- Props and Costumes (the ones we can't beg, borrow, or barter to get)
- Renting horses, stagecoaches, wagons
- Location and permit fees
- Hotels for out of town cast/crew
- Porta-potties, because Outhouses don't travel well
You had your chance, Hollywood! Now we'll make it ourselves. (in the most polite, Canadian way possible).
