Our Story
Breathless is a QPIX Short Drama Development in association with Screen Queensland and Screen Australia. It's tells the story of Jodie Layersmith a monther and wife who is incapable of moving on with her life after the tragic drowning of her child in their backyard swimming pool. It's a very raw, gritty peice of drama that explores the emotions of backyard drownings through a creative format.
The Impact
In 2008 - 2009 32 children under the age of 5 died from drowning related incidents in Australia alone. It's estimated that for every 1 child that drowns 14 are taken to emergency rooms and 4 are admitted to hospital as a result of immersion.
Breathless is a creative drama that forces the audience to empathise and connect with the tragedy of child drownings in a way that is more powerful then sheer statistics and news reports. But to get this film out into the world we need help.
What We Need & What You Get
We have a great script and a great cast and a great crew, all we need is the great funds to make the film an amazing story!
We need to raise $2000 to go towards paying for post-production costs and marketing costs so that we don't waste the talents and time that has been spent on shooting this great short film. We want to get it out there to the world and to do that we need to have the film (35mm) processed for editing which costs a lot of money. Thankfully, many people who have seen the script and who realise the worth in producing this have agreed to help us with mates rates which is how we have got this far already! We have also agreed to pay some of our professional crew and cast on deferred payment (which basically means they do it for free with the hope that they will get paid later when the film makes some money) and raising some funds to go towards their hard work would mean we are able to show them we value their work, their creativity and their support in the making of the film.
