WE DID IT!!
The BUGS campaign has been fully funded but is STILL ACCEPTING CONTRIBUTIONS!!!

While we have what we need for production, we still need to raise a little more for score and VFX. Contributions are still the best way to support BUGS! You can contribute by clicking any perk on the right of this page. Don't see a perk you like? Click on any of them and then you can change perks and contribution amounts on the next page. THANK YOU so much from the entire 'BUGS: A TRILOGY' team for your ongoing support. We simply couldn't do it without you.

BUGS is a psychological horror trilogy in the style of the 1975 horror film, 'Trilogy of Terror'.

A babysitter with a clever and violent ward. A patient who mistrusts the doctor’s orders. A young woman haunted by a malevolent presence. And the terror that ties them all together: BUGS. On their own, spiders, parasites, and bedbugs hold their own private horror for those who are beset by the quiet scuttles and slurps of inhuman creatures. But for Diane, Hannah, and Elena, three varied yet eerily similar women, these bugs represent the larger horrors of paranoia, helplessness, and abandonment.

Who we are:

Simone Kisiel - Director & Producer

Simone Kisiel is a filmmaker who graduated with honors from NYU-Tisch with a BFA in Drama and a minor in Creative Writing.  After graduation Simone worked at Stonestreet Studios where she directed two short films (one of which, “Quietus,” was an official selection at Manhattan Film Festival 2015 and won Best Short Film) and edited a feature film (“Aberrant“, Manhattan Film Fest 2015, SA Film Fest 2015, Hoboken International Fest 2015), a short (“Can’t Get Enough,” Big Apple Film Festival 2014) and a full length pilot.  In May 2014, Simone became a freelance editor and indie filmmaker.  A 12-episode webseries, “HOUSED,” directed and produced by Simone was an official selection of the 2015 Miami Web Fest 2015, nominated for Best Mockumentary and won Best Sit-Com.

Alexandra Grunberg - Writer & Star

Alexandra Grunberg is a New York City based screenwriter, author, and actress. She graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama. She was the screenwriter for the web series “HOUSED,” an official selection of the 2015 Miami Web Fest and winner of Best Sit-Com. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous professional publications, including those recognized by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. She has acted with the Vermont Shakespeare Company, St. Michael’s Playhouse, and NYU Stageworks.

Brian Warzak - Director of Photography

Brian Warzak is a New York based cinematographer known for ‘Quietus’ (Manhattan Film Festival 2015, Best Short Film), ‘Sweet Surrender’, ‘Fashion Nightmare’ and ‘Up to Us’.  He has done director of photography work for the Young Women’s Leadership Network and the College Bound Initiative.

Jayde Lovell - Marketing Strategist

Formerly Vice President of Digital for Weber Shandwick in Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Jayde has built campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands including Coca Cola, McDonalds, Unilever, Volvo, MasterCard, Nike Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Jayde is currently a Manager at Explainer TV (New York Hall of Science) and is the host of ScIQ on the TYT Network. Jayde now uses the marketing tricks of the trade to promote science.

Zarif Taufiq - Head of Visual Media & Photography

With a background in PR and marketing, film and graphic design, as well as years spent as a mental health clinician, Zarif brings his unique vision and perspective to the world with his camera lens in hopes of uncovering the hidden facets of life often overlooked. He has shot campaigns for big brands like Colgate, Corning, and Chipotle and worked with NFL players, Real Housewives, Netflix Original stars, and internationally acclaimed artists, but is happiest in the trenches of indie film.

At Magic Dog Productions, we strive to make women-positive films in realms where women have traditionally been excluded or marginalized, including comedy and horror. Our female power duo of director Simone Kisiel and screenwriter/actress Alexandra Grunberg have teamed together to create a horror trilogy that shows women can be scary too, and women can be the leads in horror films without taking their shirts off.

We have successfully raised the funding to produce the first 1/3 of the film, which is in the can and being edited as we speak, and now we need your help to put the 'tri' in 'Trilogy'.

MICRO BUDGET?

The Nightmare - $10,000

Hollywood films with a budget of $300,000 are considered small budget productions.  We promise to accomplish what they do, but on a micro budget.

Here at Magic Dog, we don’t have a dream. We have a nightmare. We don’t have a bloated budget to pad our pockets (in fact, Simone and Alexandra will be taking no money whatsoever from this campaign), and we want you to know exactly where your money is going:

Stretch Goals:

Sleep Paralysis - $15,000

The sleep paralysis goal would allow for improved wages for the crew and would also cover our post production work, including composition and VFX.

Waking Death - $20,000

You can make our lives a waking death with this stretch budget. This stretch budget would cover all our post production work and also be used for marketing and festival submissions. With this Waking Death Budget we will not only complete the film top to bottom, but it will ensure the film's success at festivals.

You might notice how much smaller our budgets are than other crowdfunding feature film campaigns. It’s because we’re awesome and economical self-starters who just need your help for that little extra push.

What You Get

Check out the kick-ass perks on the right (and free shipping in the US)!  Meanwhile, enjoy this fun graphic:

Why should we trust you?

Because we have honest faces. Also, we have had a history of success, both as a team and as individual artists. Simone’s film “Quietus” recently screened at the Manhattan Film Fest and won 'Best Short Film'. Alexandra Grunberg’s short stories have been published in professional magazines recognized by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. Their web series “HOUSED,” directed by Simone and co-created by Alexandra, was an official selection of the Miami Web Fest,  a nominee for Best Mockumentary, and was selected as Best Sit-Com out of a slate of 9 Nominees in the category and 200 Official Selections at the festival. With New York University educations and resumes of sheer awesomeness, you can rest easy knowing that “BUGS: A Trilogy” is going to be awesome as well.

What makes "BUGS" so special?

What makes BUGS different from other horror being produced now is that it focuses not on shock factor, gross out, or (as Scream would call it) the “obligatory titty shot.” Instead, BUGS is based on the premise that horror begins in the mind… a small, terrible thought gets lodged in your subconscious, much like a bug burrowing into the dirt, and what the audience doesn’t see, what the audience chooses to believe, the story that they see off camera and the real-life truths that resonate within the tale are the true trademarks of terror. Women, and men, can watch these three shorts and know that they represent horrors we have to live with every day and fears that are all too real. Fiction is the lens through which we can understand and confront the horrors of our own reality. And too often women depicted in horror have been stripped down to over-sexualized stereotypes, depriving the audience of a story that rings true because, despite the safety of a fictional setting, the most important part of the story, the meaning behind the monsters, is true.

Why should I contribute?

Maybe you’re Stephen King and you recognize our fan-nerdiness calling out to you from the interwebs. Maybe you're a supporter of the bizarre and want to take a terrifying journey with us. Maybe you’re a company that wants to support a budding production house. Maybe you’re Mom (Love you, Mom!). Or maybe you are fan of horror, a fan of artists taking the initiative to create their own work, a fan of women taking down monsters or finding the monster within themselves, a fan of responsible representation in the media, a fan of the darkness under the bed, in the closet, and within every creepy-crawler that invades your nightmares. But we’re really hoping that you’re Stephen King.

How else can I help?

By spreading the word, of course! Just like a good Bed Bug or Parasite does, crawl on over to your inbox or social media and infect someone you love with our creepy pro-woman agenda.  Or stalk us on our website and through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
