Hey y'all,
Alec, Alex, and Eugene here from RSJ Moishe House in Brighton MA!
We live in a Russian-speaking Jewish community house focused on creating community and experience for young professionals. We host 5-6 events every month for our diverse community of open-minded, creative, curious people.
This month we have decided to take our goals higher and tackle a larger project: building a Russian/Finnish style dry sauna (called a "banya" in Russian), that we can open for use during our events. This banya is designed to be portable, so we would be able to pack it up and take it to festivals and gatherings with minimal effort.
Having a banya would be a great asset to our community - not only is it an intimate view into Russian/Jewish bathing culture and linked with several health benefits, but it is also a wonderful opportunity to share memorable experiences together.
We need your help to make this dream a reality!
You can find our expense document at the link below:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DP4_TrN...
We are working with approximately $900 in existing funding, which means we will need to raise an additional $1700 to make this banya.
We want to be able to have this banya be available for use for our community. It's difficult to explain just how beneficial this would be, as it intersects culture, history, entertainment and health/wellness. This one little wooden structure has the power to be the focus of community interaction year-round, and we want to share it with you!
None of us have never built a banya before. There are a lot of logistical challenges that come with building a structure that gets very hot on the inside and stays cold on the outside, not to mention one that comes apart for transport. Luckily, between the three of us we have two engineers with expertise in electrical and woodworking, an architecture undergrad, several resources and mentors in the construction industry, and our trusty sidekicks Google and YouTube.
If you can't afford to donate, you can still help by forwarding this campaign to a friend who might be interested! If you happen to have wood lying around that you could donate, that would also be super helpful. Contact us directly and we can talk.
We will also be holding a series of free workshops on building and assembling the banya! Follow us at https://www.facebook.com/RSJMoishehouseBoston to stay up to date :-)
