I’m an animator and filmmaker, I work with a variety of 2D techniques,
but I specialise in paint on glass. I enjoy animating animals most, especially
horses! My work has won a number of awards and distinctions at Festivals around
around the world, including a BAFTA for my children’s film ‘Elephants’, 2008,
and has been included in several compilations eg for Filmclub and the British Council’s
DVDs for schools. You can view samples of my work here: https://vimeo.com/sallypearce
My project Chernobyl Journey is a mixed media feature documentary,
I’ve been developing and shooting it since 2009 and I’ve run two
successful crowdfund campaigns to fund my trips to Chernobyl. Although
the subject matter is seen through the playful eyes and engaging style of an animator, Chernobyl Journey is also a serious film that tackles complex
environmental questions.
On the night of 26th April 1986, nuclear reactor no 4 at
the
Chernobyl Atomic Plant exploded discharging a cocktail of radioactive
materials. It took days to control the meltdown that followed, leading
ultimately to the permanent evacuation of 2,600 square kilometres of
land in
Ukraine, Russia and Belorus - the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. In the late
1990s
21 przewalski horses were released into the Zone. The przewalski horse
is the
only truly wild horse left on the planet, and extremely rare. I was
drawn to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone by the horse’s story. I made my
first trip there in 2009 and other trips followed as my fascination
grew.
I was initially looking for background for a fiction, but I soon
realised
I had to make a documentary. Chernobyl Journey is the story of the wild
horses
of Chernobyl and of my animator’s travels into the Zone to look for
them.
A mixed media documentary feature is quite an undertaking for a
completely independent film-maker to deliver. I’ve been developing and fighting
for this film for eight years now, with help from some wonderful friends and
colleagues. I am at a stage now where all or most of the live action for the project
has been shot. The £20,000 I am crowdfunding for is to cover the cost of the
next stage – the edit of the live action, the pre-visualisation of the
animation, and the production of the paint on glass animation. This stage is a
crucial turning point because, although a little animation already exists, and
the live footage has been shot, the film itself is still in my (and my
editor’s) head. By the end of the stage I am crowdfunding for now - although we
will still have another stage to go to complete - the film will be outside of
my head and out there in the world, it will exist! So you can now make it
happen by supporting this Indiegogo crowdfund.
We are crowdfunding for £20,000. The £20,000 will essentially buy time – around three months of my
editor’s time and a subsistence for me for a year, which is what is needed to
edit the live action and plan and produce the animation. Simple!
At the same time as I am running this crowd fund, my editor and I are
also applying for funding from other sources. If we get the funding we are
applying for, and are successful in this crowdfunding campaign, then hurray! we
will be able to go ahead to the next stage of sound track and compositing to
complete the film. If we are not successful in the funding bid, the £20,000 we
are crowdfunding for will turn this film into a reality alone, even though we
will still have that final stage to finance. So this is a turning point for the
film - and your contributions will really make it happen.
I have chosen the flexible option for this crowdfund, so that we can
keep contributions, even if we do not reach the proposed target of
£20,000. If
we do not reach our target we will use contributions we do have to get
as far
as possible towards the goals of editing the live action and planning
and
producing all the animation. The edit and plan for the animation really
needs
to exist before the animation itself anyway, so we would do the edit and
plan, and then just get as much animation done as possible before the
money runs out. But hopefully we will meet our target, then I can do all
the
animation!
The success of this crowdfund will not only enable us to turn this film
into a reality by editing the live footage and making the animation, it will
also help to promote the success of our other funding bids, so the film can be completed.
So please do contribute if you can!!
But remember you can help a great
deal just by sharing on Twitter and Facebook using the Indiegogo SHARE tools,
and by letting your friends know about the crowdfund by email or word of mouth,
and by LIKING our pages and posts.

STORYBOARD ART
It
is a pity to break up a storyboard - it's one artwork really! I am
offering all the watercolour art work for my BAFTA winning film
Elephants and for my award winning film 'Hally', with signed DVDs of the
films, for donations of £500 and £1,000 respectively. The difference is
that the Elephants storyboard was executed in one 36 hour work in,
whilst the Hally storyboard took about a month to complete and comprises
much more artwork. I will consider breaking the storyboards up and
making individual pages available if there is no interest in the full
storyboard artwork as one piece. But for now:
Donate £500 for the full Elephants storyboard art, with a signed DVD of the film.
Donate £1,000 for the full Hally storyboard art, with a signed DVD of the film.
See the storyboards (as films) on my Facebook Page:

We

but also on scriptwriting or storyboarding, and a wide range of general
film making skills. If you can come to me, I will provide hot drinks
and snacks. I can work with a group of up to 4 at my cottage, depending
on how you want to work. You must provide all artists materials yourself.
If I come to you you will need to provide the venue and cover my travel
and any accommodation costs, in addition to making the donation.
PLEASE CONTACT ME TO DISCUSS BEFORE TAKING THIS PERK, THANKYOU!
Either send message via Indiegogo, or email me: sallyppearce@yahoo.co.uk
4 DAY CREATIVE BREAKS IN SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK
Donate £1,000 for three nights and four days of creativity in comfort.
You
get ensuite cottage style accomodation, vegetarian catering (or you
could self cater if you prefer), the use of my studio and facilities,
and my time. There would be a variety of ways to use this - you could
develop an idea, progress a script, practice your animated sketching,
learn about animation, make one shot of 2D animation in a variety of
techniques, learn about film making in general - fiction or fact and
animation or live action, you could even make your first short film....
There's
also a wide range of outdoor activities available locally, and
available accomodation is one double bed and one single bed, so you
could bring a creative partner or a member of your family for a small
additional extra cost to cover food.
There's lots that could be done in four days, and there's lots that couldn't, so...
