Build a city, build hope of hundreds of people

Can you imagine saying that you could help to improve the lifestyle of the poorest people around the world? Currently more than 1,000 million people live in a state of extreme poverty. Ciudad Esperanza aims to be a pilot project to build  extremely affordable housing in Dominican Republic and around the world.

We are a team that has joined with same goal in common, we want to contribute our bit to make a significant change in the lives of people living in extreme poverty. We have contributed before in our local community, but the first time we have taken the challenge to commit to something that will change the lives of many people, and even our own.

Ciudad Esperanza will help the people of a community with slum resources, providing a roof where to live, a school, nursing area, workshops, jobs and leisure for a relatively low cost.

The idea is the community can expand and develop by itself, greatly increasing the quality of life of its occupants. This city will be a significant change for communities in extreme poverty as it will boost its development as a community; promote education of children and will give jobs to the parents, as these will have the opportunity to learn a trade and to provide for their families.

This is a pilot project planned to Dominican Republic, but the idea is to expand this around the all world, over time, because of the low cost and the significant resistance built.

Ciudad Esperanza will feature 100 homes, 10 classrooms, a workshop to learn various trades, hospital, dental, pharmacy, industry and parks and recreation activities.

The Idea of Ciudad Esperanza

The idea of Cuidad Esperanza comes as a concern of want to satisfy the basic needs of people with fewer opportunities and substandard quality of life, so as at the same time showed no need for a large sum of money to help an entire community, providing hope, security and quality of life necessary. Through Ciudad Esperanza, which project is more than a space to ensure a decent future for the poorest people.

Why La Puya?

La Puya is a community that belongs to the sector of Los Guaricanos in North of Santo Domingo. This is one of the regions with the highest poverty rate in the capital of Dominican Republic, is located on what was once a river, being now a ravine full of garbage and sewage.

This community has a big contrast, from their misery homes they can appreciate much more affluent housing and privileges, right now La Puya sector can only dream with this, cause they live a subhuman living without basic services or job.

The people of the community living in La Puya severely overcrowded by the number of members representing a family, they live in spaces ranging from 15 m2 to 20 m2 occupied by 4-6 people.

THE IMPACT

• The people of Ciudad Esperanza will have a better quality of life.

• Will assist with the education to over 200 children resident and nonresident

• Will encourage a employing over 400 people from Ciudad Esperanza and surrounding areas.

• Will give a decent home to more than 500 people in extreme poverty.

• The project Ciudad Esperanza will provide medical, dental and pharmaceutical services needed for any emergency that might arise.
  

• Will provide a recreational area for children and adolescents, will also feature activities area.
  

• Will provide a technical workshop to be used to train the inhabitants City Hope in learning a trade.
  

• It will improve the quality of the environment.
  

• The idea is this model can be replicated in different poor communities in Dominican Republic and the word to improve the quality of life of people who live there as well as its environment, this would enhance development in the sector.

DETAILS OF CIUDAD ESPERANZA

The materials used in Ciudad Esperanza

The low costs of Ciudad Esperanza are due to the material used. These materials include 2 inches polyurethane panels , alu-zinc coated, which provide both protection and thermal insulation. Metal profiles 2"x2" to be the structure that will support the wall panels. These will be fixed on a concrete floor 12cm.

Complex consisting in 100 houses:

All houses of the project will be equal. The house will have three bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom. Also, it is designed so that can live a family of 5 members. Most people living in La Puya have only one room where the whole family sleeps.

Workshop:

This workshop will be taught various trades such as joinery, mechanics, crafts, among others. One of the most important things besides providing an area worthy for a family to live, it is to provide the necessary education so they can support themselves.

School with 10 classroom:

These classrooms counted with cross ventilation for the best use of air direction, each classroom will have a capacity up to 42 students and will provide services to their surrounding areas. Will also have computer labs and classrooms for the youngest children.

Industry

It will be a textile industry which will provide employment to 300 people working in 2 batches, this will benefit all Ciudad Esperanza families.

Hospital:

In this place will give emergency services, dentistry, and pharmacy consultation. It will have rooms for medical residents, pharmacy also by means sustainability is searched.

Park:

The park will be based on the theme of recycling discarded tires in which different objects and recycled materials to take advantage of its creation. The park will have different areas for children, play areas and an area for events.

WHAT WILL THE FUNDS BE USED FOR?

All funds will be used in the community, these were used as follows.

- Any surplus funds will be used to give housing photovoltaic energy (Solar energy) and community park.

- If it does not reach the goal, all proceeds will be used to repair homes in worse condition.
